...for joining PODS?
You see, last February my wonderful 15-year-old, deaf Bonnie (Spaniel mix - shelter rescue) dog got hit by the mail truck and died. Well, I was heart broken and SWORE OFF having any more pets.
But guess what? Last week I got ADOPTED! By the prettiest tailless lady cat you ever saw. Seems a neighbor moved away and left her behind (how mean is that?). So she came to me for succor. I went to get the mail and there she was, thin as a rail and crying pitifully. She lay down right in front of me and did that 'ain't I the cutest thing?' roll-over and, needless to say, I fell for it like a rock. So, you see, I am a card-carrying Daft Sod.
I have named her Lucy, after my sweet friend Marie (middle name Lucy) who passed on the 12th. I will try to get pics of her to post soon. She is still just a little skittish with me.
So, where do I pay my dues?

    I had a tail less cat and she only loved me and would cuddle with me just like a baby would. Hense my board name--Tommaseena. I miss her--early one morning a fisher got her. It has been almost 4 years.

    Jake remembers her laying in the drawer under his crib---he was only 2 at the time.

    It will take time to have the tail less cats to warm up to you. It is their make up.

    Lucy will be a good cat for you.

    cats are smart
    We have had a cat for 7 years because cats are smart. We had 2 cats, strictly indoor pets. There was a friendly stray with a stubby tail who wandered the neighborhood. We had to have one of ours (her name was mouse, we raised her from a kitten for 11 years) put down because she got cancer and was too old to survive surgery or treatment. The very next week stubby tail started bringing us treats (1/3 of her dead birds and lizards) and hanging around our garage, sneaking into the house whenever we were to slow in shutting the door. We asked around the neighborhood to be sure no one owned her. Our girls named her Lilo (from the cartoon Lilo and Stitch) and she has been ours since. How she knew we were down to one, I don't know. Your Lucy just knew you needed to look after each other, just like Lilo knew we needed someone to look after us after Mouse was gone.

    Sooo...do I qualify as a PODS too? Take care, seof

    for sharing your 'cat tales'. I have had cats in the past but I always chose them. This time I have been 'chosen' and it is a cool feeling. I think you are right, seof, she knew I needed 'somebody' just now.
    I always thought of myself as primarily a 'dog person', having cats only because my son preferred cats. But who knows? Friends come in all shapes and sizes, and apparently species as well.

    Well I'd say that kitty knew who was a good mark didn't she! LOL Glad she found her way to you Zah, I know she will be so very love! Sorry for your loss in regards to Bonnie, my animals are family! So that said CONGRATS on the new family member and welcome to the club! Can't wait to see pics of her.

    So sorry about Bonnie. We had two cats at one time which are now gone. We lived in the country so we buried them on our lot. I put a brick sidewalk out to the burial site and covered it with bricks so wild animals wouldn't dig them up. Then planted a bush that would bloom during the month that they died. Actually the bush was for the first one and I planted a flower for the second one but a deer ate it (the plant). I told my husband we could never move but a few years later we sold the house and did move. Time heals.

    Our beloved animals...
    I understand exactly how you feel about Lucy. Often - regarding the very first dog of my own, Abigail, I used to say: she was meant to be for me. Now, I have Lulu and say: I was meant to be for her.

    Your Lucy is a very pretty girl - and so wise because, yes, I firmly believe she chose you! Bless you, Zah, for offering your heart and home to a pet in need. Once Lucy feels safe and secure, I'm sure there will be much love between the two of you. And her name is a fitting tribute to your dear friend.

    I wonder how dogs/cats do that? Choose us? I chose Gabby at a Petco adoption. She was lethargic and when I held her the foster told me she had just been "fixed". I took her home w/me and figured out she must have been abused by someone. She never warmed up to anyone other than me, and only to a certain degree. She didn't like to be held, she was not a lap cat and sat at my feet instead. She was a gentle cat, never hissing or spitting at anyone, never using her claws. She just was Gabby. I had her for 16 years until she developed liver/kidney failure. I took her for her weekly visit when the vet said its time. I held her while he put her down and still haven't stopped crying - its been a year and 3 months.

    I too swore off any more, but within a month of being by myself I couldn't take coming home to an empty house every night. A friend of mine (another bc surivor) went to the shelter and Cairo (her shelter name - Ugh!) would not leave me alone. She walked in front of my feet, wrapped herself around my legs, and I kept pushing her away. She would have none of that! She finally planted herself on my lap and stared into my face. I was hooked. She is a very friendly cat, loves to jump up on you, and she sleeps on my arm at night (literally)! I have to pull my arm out from under her every morning to turn off the alarm. I know I've talked about Ms. Sadie before on this site, but she is just my cutest little woogums!

    I have a niece who is 31 this year and she has been adopting strays all her life. Her latest is a three legged cat that was wandering around her Brooklyn neighborhood. One of her cousins gave her a hampster as a wedding gift - at the reception! It was in a little plastic ball and she played with it for the rest of the party.

    I think all us animal lovers are special people.
