Recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I had my right breast removed. The next step is probably chemo first because of expander and then radiation. What an emotional rollercoaster to this point in my life. One thing I would like to say is I am one of the rare cases where a mri of the breast discovered more cancer. Cancer that wasn't seen by a mamograhm, and cancer that is invasive. I am 46--and even with a masectomy my margins are not clear. So even if your health care provider states mri's find more spots of nothing then spots of something. Finding the spots of something early can save one's life.

    Welcome Aboard
Welcome to the family of amazing warrior-survivors~ and thank you for the heads up about finding more spots. I had a mammogram, ultra-sound, and an MRI, though it was obvious I had BC; my tumour was the size of a walnut and very easy to find!

Post often, you will find yourself surrounded by a welcoming and living community of women and also a few men who are survivors as well.

    Hugs,

    Welcome Maddy......
Glad you found us though sorry for the reason. Sounds like you have been through quite a lot already. My cancer was also found by MRI. It is also invasive. I'm 47 and just had a lumpectomy last week. Come here whenever you feel the need and everyone will use their experiences to help you through. :) Pammy

Yes, a runaway roller coaster over which you have very little control! Hang on & hang in though. You will make it through!

Mine didn't show on the mammogram or ultrasound. I read an article that said cancer is three dimensional and mammograms are only two and that is why sometimes it misses it.

You have already made much progress along the journey - though quite difficult, for sure. We all understand the "emotional rollercoaster" - you will find that exact phrase used very often within the threads.

Many of us have already been through chemo. Can be scary; but, it's certainly doable. We're all here to support and encourage each other.

    Best wishes to you.

    Kind regards, Susan

Newbie to site and MRI issue
Hi, I wish I would have discovered this site months ago. I'm still very much in denial that I ever had cancer. I find this site very comforting, though, just by reading all the posts and support. I am very tired of being tired and no having the energy to do what I want to do.

I was diagnosed last December, at age 48. I also had an MRI after my initial biopsy showed the tumor was cancerous. It showed two more "spots" that could not be located with an ultrasound, so they did the biopsy using the MRI. The two "spots" were not cancerous, so I had a lumpectomy. Since then I have completed 4 chemo treatments and I am almost at the end of my radiation treatments - only 7 left out of 30. I was glad to have the MRI - on both breasts - so I could be sure there was no other cancer.

    Welcome Maddy and Sfitzhum
Sorry I'm late in welcoming you both to the site. I too am newly DX'ed and new to the site. I seem to find my self here alot just reading the post and sometimes responding. I find great comfort here and lots of support. It helps me to know I'm not alone in this.

Seems like we all have alot in common, I am 45 tears old and a routine mammogram would not have detected my cancer, it took the ultrasound to get a clear picture of it. I am currently waiting for my insurance to approve my lumpectomy (which should be in the next 10 days) and my doctor says shes requesting and MRI before surgery as well. I was wondering what the benefits of an MRI are?
But kinda get an idea now.

Anyway we're glad you both came here to share you story. Post often and take care

today medical oncologist tomorrow the world
I've already met with the radiation oncologist and will meet with the medical oncologist this afternoon. This is a big appointment for me. What type of chemo will they use, technically I had 3 different cancers in what was formerly known as my little right breast. An par for any kind of treatment I have ever had I am an interesting or unusual case. Although my cancers atleast the first 2 were hormone receptive I'm not. So I guess I'm going to make them work a little bit harder and keep them on there toes. This outlit was and is emotionally, desperately needed by me. I have so many thoughts going through my mind.Okay so I have a flat tire on the right side. Does one hide it while waiting for air? It's not like I announced this disease to everyone I know. Could it cause conversations that I may not be ready for yet. yup yup undecided....thank you to everyone who responded it's nice to not feel alone anymore...I wish hope and health for all... Anna

Just signing on to welcome you both here, though sorry for your dx. Like others have said, you have found the right place. Though can**r is probably the scarest thing you will ever have to face in your lifetime, know that you don't have to face it alone. You have us.

All us have (or are) been through what you are going through now; the uncertainty, the fear, the denial, the anger, the confusion, the loniliness...though we cannot take these feelings away, we can share with you our experiences and, maybe, it will help to ease some of these feelings.

Write whenever you need someone to listen. There is, 24-7, someone online and I am always amazed me how quickly the folks on this site get a response. You will find that it is easy to bond with this group, because you can tell how you are really feeling and we will understand.

it is always up to you
Maddy, whatever you decide regarding who to tell and how much, just remember we are always here. I told everyone at my work because I figured they would have to go through it all with me and I wasn't about to hide anything. I especially wanted to let the guys know so they didn't feel uncomfortable in any way. I had such amazing support from everyone. They even said it was going to be weird when I had hair again because they were so used to seeing me bald! Keep us informed as to how it goes for you
