I really don't want to insult anyone, And I am new to this, and please don't get mad at me for asking but have you ever been conned by someone. A post thats not real, for some sick reason someone felt the need to be on here and made up a sad story and drew you in. I want to think that this is not possible, but is it. It's just there is a post that is giving me a sick feeling. Can't be chemo brain, I am not there yet. Sorry, I just need to know.

    Kat....
I'm sure it's happened before and my hubby reminds me diligently about what info I am giving out and how preditors are in EVERY chat room & discussion board (he is a sargent on the police dept. detective division). So trust me, if I feel like I was conned, I would put in a complaint & let him investigate. It is a Federal offense if a crime is committed. However, we can not stop someone from being here just for their sick pleasure.
This is to EVERYONE....never give out your address, never state your exact surgery times & dates to give clues as to when you will not be home (there are hackers that can get info about you through your url address), and just plain be careful out there.
And TRUST your instincts and gut reactions. Kat, if there is a post that is giving you the willies, then you are right to be leary. It may be nothing, but then you may be dead on!
And to anyone that is reading this that knows Kat is right....WE ARE ON TO YOU!!! :0) Pammy

It happened here recently, and was horribly cruel to all of us. We spent a lot of time and emotion on what turnd out to be someone playing a sick "joke".
So if someone gets a red flag from a thread, I pay immediate attention!

Some of us were conned pretty good awhile back. but it was discovered. If you think someone has done this contact the CSN and report it. They will investigate.

Yes. Many of us not too long ago suffered greatly from the cruel hoax enacted by a false poster. The ACS/CSN welcomes all, and cannot deny admission until the evildoer shows their true purpose.

As others have stated - the boards are public forum. The ACS/CSN displays a reminder of this of the top of the page. And warns all members NOT to divulge personal information on the boards.

ALWAYS be extremely suspicious of anyone attempting to sell something, or seeking donations. This is directly forbidden by the ACS/CSN member agreement.

And, if you are EVER truly OFFENDED (which is quite different than being merely suspicious) by a thread/post - you can click on "Report as Offensive" at the bottom right hand corner. This will bring that specific post directly to the attention of the administrators, who actually do a very good job of monitoring the site, considering what they're up against.

Since there are so many newcomers like yourself, Kat11 - it was probably actually a very good thing that you asked. So, please don't be sorry. Personally, whenever I feel a bit suspicious - or sense something not genuine - I simply avoid the thread.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Hi Kat
Yes Kat, it did happen on here once, that I know of. It was a month or two back, I think. It was sickening and the person or persons that did it are sick and mean spirited, in my opinion. I would hope that people wouldn't do that on a site where we are cancer survivors, but, they did. It seemed very strange and only got stranger as time went on. And, the really sad part is that I find myself not trusting the "new" posters on here, until they prove themselves somehow. When I see people posting way too much bad stuff or way too much personal stuff about themselves, it just makes me sit back and think that it just can't be real and I just never pay attention to them again. I just am cautious.

I'm pretty sure I know which thread, and if so, I have the same feeling. I've done a little investigating and what I have found doesn't ease my concern at all.

I'm so sorry this happened to you all :(
How did you know it was a joke, what exactly happened? If your allowed to give details. And I have never seen a red flag since I have been on. Does a red flag mean they are under investigation with ACS or only that someone was offended. See, I would try to nail them in their little sherade and persue it (since I do have the resources!). Because I do not believe on slaps on the wrist when people pray on weakened people or for any reason. I would even go so far as making outside contact with them and would bring along my team. I guess could say like a decoy. So, if any one does get suspicious...mail me privately and let me know since I don't always check all threads. :) Pammy

now I'm almost afraid to post
Being the "odd duck" here is frightening enough, but to think other people may think I am a fraud is just as frightening. I have had a rough year and sometimes I can't believe it either. I don't know what is "too personal" or "too much info" or even lack of info. If I am making anybody uncomfortable "call me out" and I will be out of here.

Joe - you wear more than one hat?
A little private investigation, a little detective work, "on the side"? I'm impressed; yet, somehow, not surprised. :-)

Nice to know you're looking out for our best interests. Comforting. Thanks.

    Fakes and the like
I have been a member of the CSN Family since 2003, and the hoaxters/scammers/abusers among us are few and far between. Yes, we recently did have one in here, who wreaked emotional havoc by sucking us in and making us care about her plight. Alas, she turned out to be less than honest...and many felt that they could never be as open or trusting in here again. I dare say, "Time Heals All Wounds, and Wounds All Heels", and we have all but forgotten our trauma. We are, for the most part, a wonderful, supportive, empathetic FAMILY, who honestly care for and about each other. That bond reaches far beyond the temporary negative side-effects of dishonest ones, or those with a less than clear agenda.

Those who would prey on those of us battling the Beast are far sicker than any of us warrior-survivors are! They are almost ( but not quite) deserving of pity. I know it is unlikely I ever would have come to CSN had the Beast not visited me~ I cannot imagine coming in here for nefarious reasons!

Think of the advice we give our children regarding the Internet, and act accordingly! The beauty and the danger of the Internet is the same: We are anonymous!

Should you be concerned about a post, send your concerns to the webmaster. It will be looked into, and if need be, the offender's account will be deleted.

By all means, DO NOT let the meaness of a tiny minority of ill people stop you from being part of this amazing group of Kindred Spirits!

    Hugs,
    Claudia
