I got the drain out yesterday. I still have my incision under arm where nodes were taken with tape strips and I have the hole from drain, but it it covered with shrink wrap bandage. I have a hard like cord feeling under the arm with a hole. What I want to know is what can I use under arm pit. Can I use powder or something, feeling is like I am sticking to my own skin.

    Armpit
I just kept my arm up, propped on the side of the settee...It stopped me sticking together.

Hope this helps.... My Radiologist put his hand on his hip and told me to do likewise..."Have attitude, Walk like a Sista!"

    Powder
I didn't dare use anything. Maybe a phone call to onco. There might be something special they have.

I used a deodorant called Crystal, it's recommended for Breast Cancer survivors.

I didn't use anything either. Call your doctor and tell him about this and see what he

says. My oncologist and plastic surgeon said nothing for awhile. Call and be sure Kathy!

    I didn't......
I didn't use anything either Kat, until everything was well healed. Once that happened, I used powder. Now, I use a spray on deodorant.

Best to ask your doc before you try anything.

    Cording
Kat, I rarely use any kind of deodorant anymore, but when I do it's something without aluminum like Tom's of Maine. However, I don't know what you could use in your situation. If the cord is sticking, you will want to tell your doctor. It could cause problems later on. I had cording from the bottom of my breast down to almost my navel. My onc. had me do stretching exercises and massage to make sure it didn't stick. Take care of this early so you don't have problems later on. Good luck, Kat.

    Hi Kathy!
I was told to use nothing. You aren't healed yet, so, you don't want

anything there. If you need to, just call your oncologist and talk to him. But, I doubt

that you are suppose to put anything there yet. Be careful with it! Hugs to you,

    Tom's is an excellent
Tom's is an excellent deodorant and is available in most natural foods area of most stores. Another good one is Arm and Hammer, aluminum and paraben free and it costs only $1.99. It is very effective with both wetness and odor and is the regular deodorant section. I have tried several different aluminum free, paraben free ones over many years. My daughter is very proactive for not using aluminum, parabens, eating healthy, exercise etc. Not from my gene pool I am sure. But the A&H is great and cheap and works really well. My daughter used to use a crystal thing. Looked like a rock. She swore it worked great but I just couldn't get into wiping a rock thingie under my arms. Felt so cavewoman. Is that what you use Tasha? Not meaning you are a cavewoman, just looking for clarification.

    armpit
try putting a large band-aid over it. another thing to try (if you can still find them) is perspiration shields that you put under the arm to avoid stains on your clothes. pure baby powder is fine to use.

    soap/shampoo and drainage incision
you should only use neutragena or dove soap and shampoo; these are the only two pure soaps/shampoos on the market.
if your drainage incision is not healed, don't use anything on it, just rest your hand on your hip -'like a sista with attitude' - to relieve problem.

    aluminium
aluminum-containing deoderant is only harmful when having radiation as it can interfere with the isotopes.
