Question....I pulled a muscle lifting groceries today right where my liver resection starts. I can't remember if there is any restrictions on pain relief when you are on chemo? I take Folfox plus Avastin every other week. When in doubt I usually take Tylonel but I think ibuprofin is better for pulled muscles.

Just wondering if anyone knew of restrictions???

I remember my doc telling me
I remember my doc telling me not to take ibuprofen products because it can interfere with platelet counts.. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong..

    My Onc...
...says Tylenol is hard on the liver, I have a tumor in my liver, so I try not to take anything that may hurt it, but she said I was able to use Advil or Motrin.

    I think beer....
A six pack of beer would take care of it! Although I am restricted until the end of July since I am growing 2/3 of my liver back!

    Maybe a margarita.......

I will be good to my liver
I will be good to my liver from now on so I think my days of drinking with my buddies all the time are over but you can better believe if God has mercy on me and the doc gets me into remission I will be partying my butt off that night.

    Tylenol vs Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS may affect the way platelets work and could interfere with normal blood clotting. That is why they are restricted 7 days before and after surgery (their effect is temporary). They do not affect the number of platelets or "platelet count".

Tylenol as has been stated is pretty toxic to the liver.

Eric, hope you get your remission party!

    Your question
My husbands onc said not to take ibprofen while he was on chemo because it thins your blood and he does get slight nose bleeds. He told him if he needs to take something to take Tylenol. Just don't take more than the rec. dose. So I don't know. Paula G.
