My hair has started to come back in. It is coming in fast--looks like a mixture of white and dark brown. Started to come in after my 5th treatment of Taxol w/Herceptin. I think at this rate in about 2 months I'll be gelling it. It is so soft. My son, Jake thinks it is really cool.

Just hoping the hair on the legs and arm pits don't come in as fast.

Just thought I would share.

Margo

    Hi Margo.......
First of all, my underarm hairs didn't come back either! Nor leg hairs really. Too cool, huh Tasha??!!

My hair is now maybe almost 1/2 inch long in areas and it is coming in wavy! And I think that's wonderful! And I agree, it is sooo soft! My hubby and friends like to touch it...lol!
Waiting right now until it's a bit longer to see if I want to start coloring it again.
It of course, has grey (if it hadn't BEFOE I was dx'd, it would have gone grey after that anyway!).

But, I love it very short (not quite this short though) and I think I will keep it pretty short.

Hurray for all of us as we "come back" after treatment!

A half a pit is better than one
I'm about a year out from chemo. Where I had rads, I have a 1/2 pit of hair. It's kind of funny looking and I haven't shaved it even yet. The rest of my hair is back, but I still have chemo curl on my head. I will miss it when it grows out. All my best. Lynn

    WOO HOO for peach fuzz!
YAY for Margo! My hair also came back as "baby hair"... so soft. And, it was CLEAR at first. Translucent, no color at all, could see through it - like fishing line! (Which was kinda freaky.) Eventually I could see the brown pigment moving up from my scalp along the individual hairs. Rads permanently stopped both the armpit hair and sweat glands, right/BC/treated side. No shaving nor deodorant needed for me there.

While undergoing rads, the hair on my head was growing. Even though still in treatment - to me, it was a sign that I was on my way back to real life. I hope this is so for you, too.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Me Too!
My hair has just started growing back, its to the point where people can actually see it. I could see it before, clear, like you said! Now it feels like baby hair. I hope it comes in curly or wavy, even if only for a while, my old hair was thin and straight as a pin.

    Peach fuzz
    Margo,

Thank you for sharing. I just finished my 3rd treatment with taxol/herceptin . This week I had a break from the taxol and just had the herceptin. I will be finished 9-2-09 (God willing) so I hope that I will have some hair by then, the bald look is getting really old and I cannnot stand not having eyebrows or eyelashes. I was pretty down today so your post has given me a much needed ray of hope. Love surf

    My hair
The hair on my legs I never really lost--grew slower.
The underarm hair stopped growing completely until last week--still growing slow.
My hair on my head--yes I measured it--is 1/4 inch long. Dreaming here--but in 6 weeks when my treatment is over I might need a hair cut---or at least use gel to spike it even more.

Jake loves to rub my head--"Your hair is softer than mine" he says.

    LOL

    Hi j916
Thanks for the good laugh. Sounds like something that would happen to me. Now you know why mama told you not to wear underwear with holes. LOL

And for everyone who said that their underarm hair didn't come back, check your chin thats where it comes back!

    Hugs and laughs

    Yeah for hair!
That's great, Margo. I bet you will need gel and a haircut before long. As for all of you who never regained your leg or underarm hair -- you are all daft sods!! I lost all of it during chemo, but boy did they come back as soon as the treatments were over. I, too, look like a gorilla now. I loved going to the gym, or swimming, or wearing dresses without having to think about my body hair. Now, I'm back to hairy Mediterranean woman. The other day I was in yoga class raising my arms in the air when I got a look at my pits. Had to lower my arms pretty quick. I'm not going to shave though. Since the hair is so soft I want to try waxing it all off.

Good luck to all those trying to grow hair!

Hair-we should re-create the rock musical Hair!
I think it would be a huge hit!

As I said in another post, I lost all of my hair and when I it came back I was in shock. My hair, before chemo, was a wavy auburn with natural streaks of browns and blacks. When it came back, it was calico! No lie! It was light blonde (almost white), light brown, and darker brownist red. I started to cry and yelled, "God! This is not funny!"

Anyway, I guess He figured he had gone too far that time and my hair fell out. When it grew back, and it grew back at an exceptionally fast rate, it was almost black (the color of my wigs). I wasn't crazy about it, since I really liked my before chemo natural highlights, but it was better than wearing wigs and it was nice to have hair again. I didn't dare complain, because I didn't want this to fall out again, too.

Back to my hair-comeback: It grew back really soft, like baby hair. It's still very soft and, now that I quit my meds, it's beginning to thicken some. It grew back curly and that was cool, since I always wanted curly hair. The curls lasted for about 2 years, until I cut it. After the haircut I had no more curls (bummer). My hair since the haircut made another change, it's almost back to the color it was prior to chemo.

    Well, that's my hair story.

I'm in the peach fuzz club, too. Am so excited to think my armpit may not grow back. But I bet I will be back to hairy Southern American woman soon.

Thanks, everyone, especially Margo for starting this thread. Like Surfergirl, these posts cheered me up. I'm pretty tired of the bald look myself.

By the way, I got some eyebrows and eyelashes today! Well, not really. Just got some great tips and supplies from the local Sephora store. Will they grow back soon? Anybody know?
