Hi everyone, I had my resection and temp ileostomy 6 days ago. I am taking percocet for pain, but I wish I had something else to take for breakthrough pain, is there anyone out there who took more than one med for pain control.. Also, I am overweight, so my tummy is bigger, I had to go out and buy a girdle for support today, it seems to be helping. anyone else have that problem? How long did you have leakage from your incision. I know lots of questions, but I appreciate your responses. My stomach is also so sollen, even my biggest pants don't fit, I am guessing that it is just part of the healing process. Thanks..

    Pain
Pain is very common. I know that I am still in pain two months post surgery, but only taking 1/4 of pain med when I need it. I know that there were some days that the pain medicine was not a help at all. I never took more than one med at a time, but I know that sometimes the pain can be overwhelming.

As far as the stomach that is bound to be swollen. Mine still is sore but it has gone done quite a bit, but someone might tell you how long it takes to go down. I still see swelling, but I believe I had different surgery than you. It takes time so be patient with yourself and don't push anything you do.

    Good luck!

    I...
...am on Morphine time release, Oxicotin and Percocet for pain, sometimes I might take one of each if it's a stabbing pain, but since I'm not in pain that much, I go with just the percocets. The morphine is for the breakthrough pain, which is on a time release, and the oxi is pretty good for pain as well, but for some reason, I find 2 percocets help me just fine.

    Pain after surgery
I had pain for at least 2 months. i am allergic to most pain meds, but Vicodin works for me. I couldn't tolerate percocet so they gave me a Fentynal Patch for a while...it helped but boy did I have strange dreams! I got off it quickly...My tummy (also not small) was swollen for quite a while afterward. I lived in sweat pants.

Give it time. And if no one has told you yet, walk, walk, walk. It will help get everything back in order and helps the healing process as well.

    Many hugs, Vicki

    Breakthrough pain
    Hi Sweetie,

I am sorry you are having the pain issues. Have you asked for dilaudid for the breakthrough pain? It is very powerful. Your doc probably will not give you a lot, but it is good for the breakthrough stuff. Percocet is ok for maintenance, but you should be careful with all of it, since they are all opiates and dependency issues can arise. But do what you have to do to get through this with minimal pain. I did not have an ileostomy, but I understand pain issues. Talk to your doc & don't let him/her blow you off about pain control.

    Hugs,
    Kirsten
