nosebleeds

Has anyone had nosebleeds from the Taxol and Herceptin treatment? The nosebleeds are not bad but drives me crazy. Always have to make sure I have Kleenex with me. I also think some of the weird taste in my mouth is from the post nasal blood dripping.

I know how gross!

Funny you should ask. I just completed my 12 week of taxol/herceptin ... and about 2-3 weeks into treatment I noticed some real stuffiness in my nose when I woke up in the morning ... and often a few times during the day. Now I'll try not to gross you out ... but when I'd blow my nose ... there was a LOT of bloody, mucous stuff. I never had a bloody nose ... but ... something was for sure going on with the membranes in my nose. I mentioned it to my oncologist and he didn't seem concerned but told me to let him know if I actually had nose bleeds. So ... I'd tell your oncologist about it ... and ... keep those kleenex's handy.

feeling shaky too
I feel kind of shaky too today. Whole body. Not shaky on outside but feels like nerves are wired wrong today.

I will call the oncologist office in the morning. I want to make sure everything is fine so I can keep up with all my treatments and not have to delay them.

Margo...
I had TAC chemo - different than what you're currently getting. However, and with that being said, my nasal membranes (and my throat, too - was difficult to swallow) thinned so much I had similar problems. In fact, my skin thinned everywhere. Yes, dear Margo - please do call your onc first thing in the morning and report ALL your symptoms, including the "shaky" feeling. And please just take it easy today. Skip making that fabulous dinner, save it for another day. Throw a frozen pizza in the oven instead. Jake won't mind, I'm sure!

Margo, I am so sorry to hear you feel like this today. Maybe you should call your oncologist today or go to the hospital and let them know what is going on. That must be a horrid feeling. Please let us know how you are doing and what you find out.

I had 4 small Dove dark chocolate candies and the shakes subsided. I had already had breakfast as well. Almost like low blood sugar feeling.

Feeling much better. I will call onc. office tomorrow morning.

I will keep you all informed.

Still going to make the supper tonight---lobster & clams--thinking scampi with garlic bread.

So sorry you feel so yucky. I think you should call today, too. Sometimes just talking to your doc helps. Feeling "wired/shaky" is sooo uncomfortable.
Hope you feel better real soon.

Sounds like a case of low blood sugar. But I'm not a Doc (except for halloween sometimes) and I would suggest if it happens again today....take heed. If you truly feel fine the rest of the day, waiting till tomorrow is probably ok. Enjoy your dinner!! If I had a lear jet I would be flying your way!!! Mmmmmm.....I can smell & taste it!!

Margo, I had nosebleeds and shakes from the FEC but not the Taxol. Scared the heck out of me. I did get shakes from the metoclopramide though. It's always a good idea to call your onc if you are experiencing a se not mentioned. Good luck to you........glad the chocolate worked.

Just a note regarding the
Just a note regarding the shakes. Jan, you mentioned you did get shakes from the metoclopramide (generic for Reglan). This is the drug that has thrown my world upside down, as it is linked to a neurological disease called tardive dyskinesia. Margo, if you are taking this drug, please mention this to your prescribing doctor, and do research the ill effects from taking this drug. Not worth the chance, as there are many other anti-nausea meds out there. As far as nose bleeds, I did experience some bloody mucus, but not a full blown nose bleed while taking this drug. It is never wrong to be overly cautious, and in this case, you can't take enough caution. Please let me know how things progress, and I will look forward to seeing what your doctor says. If you need any additional info about TD, please feel free to PM me any time. Hugs.

Oh Judy, I remember your post about that and thank you for warning us. Not too worry, after a couple of days of taking metoclopramide I stopped and went to our local pharmacy and told them to put in my profile to never give that drug to me again. Adverse rx. How it works here is if I get any prescription filled anywhere in B.C., the pharmacist or doctor will be able to see my full drug profile and also any alerts. Once I stopped the drug I was OK but I do warn anyone and everyone about it. The nosebleed I had was from the FEC, I'm sure.

But Judy, how are you doing?? I spoke to one of our RN's about it as her husband had a rx too but it also faded away. Did yours eventually fade or are you still experiencing se from it? Let us know how things are going for you.

Ranitidine
I am taking Ranitidine daily. My symptoms don't happen every day. The only symptom that I have everyday now is the chemo induced menopause which I hate a lot--It is 24/7 hot flashes and sweats--I keep an ice pack handy an then sometimes Jake sees me really bad he will go into the bathroom and wash his hands and then run them under ice cold water and then put his hands on the top of my head--it does cool me off. I live in Maine and I have never slept with an overhead fan on or window fan before but every night for the last month I have had to sleep like this. I close my bedroom door so the heat would not come on if it got too cool.

Does the hot flashes subside after Taxol??????

I had a few mild nosebleeds, and some blood vessels rupturing in the eye, making the white part of the eye turn bright red for a few days. The Oncologist said it was one of the normal side effects and not to worry as long as it healed itself instead of getting worse. As always, you should check with your Dr. to be sure it is not something serious.

I took C & T and got
I took C & T and got nosebleeds. My doc said it was normal. I thought it was because you lose your nose hairs too.

Hi Margo
I did not do herceptin, but I did do Taxol and yes I had nose bleeds from it. Well not exactly nose bleeds, it was more like the inside of my nose was sweating the blood.(boy is that a gross image) anyway my Dr. was not to worried about it as long as my blood levels were good.
As a diabetic it certainly sounds as if your blood sugar was to low. I know that shaky feeling well. Tell you Dr. about it, the Chemo could be lowering your blood sugar, and in the mean time when you get that feeling try a glass of OJ it is real good at raising your blood sugar levels quickly.

Low blood sugar from the steroids--she is going to cut my steriods down to 1 daily day before, day of and day after chemo and see how I do.

Sounds like you got it all worked out, that's great. I didn't know steroids would lower your blood sugar, learn something new all the time
