What does a plus or minus or nothing mean next to our names?

I know this is stupid probably, but, I just noticed the difference today in the symbol next to some of our names. Does anyone know? Thanks!

    plus or minus means
    If there is a green plus sign that means you have not added them as a friend. If there is a brown bar then you have added them as a friend. It might be that they have added you as their friend.

    Hope it helps. If you float your curser on the plus it will come up with "add as a friend" and then you click add on the next screen that comes up. Your friend that you added will get a notification the next time they sign in.
