Thanks for alerting us to Oprah today. I watched it again. I can't believe that with all of the money, all of the research, all of the brilliant minds, that there isn't a cure. I think the medical community just makes too much money off of cancer to ever let a cure be given. I really do..sad.0 -

If one chooses to think only in terms of $ profit - think of the money that could be made with an actual cure.
A local ACS contact once told me that their "unofficial mission statement" (i.e., amongst the employees only) is to work themselves right out of their jobs. Then, they'll all seek employment in the private sector vs. working for a non-profit where they make far less money than they could. And, my own onc is very involved with actually finding a real cure for BC. Once it happens, he might move on to skin cancer. My breast cancer surgeon left our specialty at the end of last year - now focusing on pancreatic cancer surgery, hoping to make inroads there.
Personally, I can't handle a pessimistic perspective, towards much of anything. I need HOPE to continue living each day. Like air, water, food, shelter. I guess I'm a "glass half full" person, not a "glass half empty" one.

I'm with you, I have heard stories of so many doctors who supposedly found a cure but were shut down by the drug companies. I do not believe it, if there was a cure, it would be out there. I know these things take time, and hopefully a cure is in the near future, but look at how far we have come! It used to be an instant death sentence. Chin up ladies! We will beat this and it will only get better from now on!

I am an optimist, I always look and think the good in all. But, I tend to think that there has also been a cure or at least, something very close. If you really think about all of the billions, if not trillions of dollars that have been spent over decades to research this, one has to see that more advancement has to have been made. If you research any hospital, hospice etc., you will find that cancer is the biggest money maker in any medical field. And, cancer is the most costly inre to treatment. And, think of the money that would be lost with a cure, once again, billions and trillions. A cure would wipeout cancer, much like it did polio, smallpox etc. I would hope and pray that a cure would not be kept from cancer patients, but, I think along the lines that it probably is. But, that doesn't mean that I still don't look ahead to the future, as I do. I have so much to look forward to. I have a wonderful husband, family, friends, coworkers anything and everything one could hope for. But, I refuse to bury my head in the sand.

Jeanne, Funny how mentioned not ever having a cure. My mother would say that all the time. She would say, that there is to much money to be made. Like the Army had to introduce penicillin or we still would not have that today. It's all about the money, and the insurance company's.0 -

Now, I'm thrilled that treatment is so advanced right now. Obviously. But, I'm not happy that cancer incidence (especially among the young) continues to rise, even when we account for the natural aging of the population, and that more is not being done to prevent cancer in the first place. Conspiracy? Who knows. But I'm not buying that everyone is out there altruistically working for a cure. Not even the American Cancer Society.0 -

I missed the show. But, someone said it was a repeat, so, maybe I have already seen it. I try to watch everything that I can that relates to breast cancer. And, I have to agree with Mimi, Kristin and Jeanne on this too, as many others do. It has been too many years and way too many dollars to have not found one.0 -
