Tasha, how are your guppies doing? love the little fishies. I have three koi in my backyard pond and go out and talk to them every day. How much time does it take to talk to 87?

    Gruesome Guppies
Look out! They Grew-some more! LOL
87? I have way over 100 now, hey they just keep at it those rampant little buggers. Also have over 40 baby swordtails in a wonderful variety of markings and colours. I sell them to the local pet shops. At the moment I have way too many males, they are nothing but trouble (Yeah, tell me)

I do talk to them everyday when I feed them...I say: "Here it comes you greedy little sods"

It's nice of you to ask. I am however, a little worried about you...

Do you have full conversations with your Koi?

Do they talk back? (Uh Oh)

Are Christmas Presents exchanged? (Oh Dear....)

    LOL

Thanks for the post. Just don't ask me again on their birthday!

    pollywogs
You have guppies and Jake has pollywogs about 50 in a container. We will have to move some to a stream because I don't want frogs all over my house when they start to jump hopefully not for a month or so. It is interesting to watch the different stages they go through.

    WHAT?????????
What the hell is a Pollywog???? Tadpole or summat? Frogspawn? I know what a Gollywog is, but they have been banned for not being politically correct.

Jake is too cute! Surely he wouldn't be the sort of young man that collects horrible things (Like My Son).. The little bugger used to catch HUGE house spiders and put them way too close under my nose to ask:... "Is this one a 20pence or a 50 pence spider).. When I scraped myself off the ceiling I'd see him trudging out the door and come back with his hand held out for the 50p. THEN...............I realised, he wasn't just taking these horrible arachnids out and claiming the 'Bounty Money'.... The horrible little chap was bringing them in in the first place! Entrepeneur or what?

Pollywog and tadpole are the same thing.

Jake is the sort of young man just like your son.

I laughed about scraping yourself from the ceiling. Jake is almost 6 so I'm sure he will come up with some stuff especially when the creatures really start to come out.

Boys are made out of snails and puppy dog tails.

and they call it Guppy Loooove....
yes I talk to my fish, mainly to assure them that I will not kill them like I did that last group. Had them for 5 years, was just telling them they were now old enough and big enough to start making babies, then they were dead. And I always have to check when my kitty sitter stays, she keeps swearing the barbecue grill is right there, and they would taste so good! Go ahead, worry about me, I do talk to myself, and answer too. Good for the ego! Just try remembering the names of all those little gups!

My mom had a pond in her
My mom had a pond in her yard and had Koi, but the cranes keep coming in and feeding and so did the raccoons. The 1st couple of times she replaced them and one time I bought her two new ones. I named them Sushi and Teriayki. After all, they did seem to be more meal than pet. Finally they got some type of netting to prevent the raccoons from eating them and something else that detered the cranes. But that was unfortunately that was after Sushi and Teriayki were a meal. She never had any long enough to develop true affection. But pets are pets and everyone has their own attachments. I actually like fish (not just to eat) but they are too much work.

Well... now that you've mentioned it...
I talk to my dog. And, I buy her a Christmas present. One for her birthday, too. No, don't get presents from her. She doesn't have any money of her own. Even if she did, how the heck could she go shopping?

    Kind regards, Susan

    R A C C O O N S !!!!
yes, we eventually put an electric fence around the pond, to keep out the raccoons, cranes, bears, coyotes, etc. I never named the first two of the second group, but the third is my moms' and she named it "instead of". so one has a name. I forgot about the guppy names, thanks for the reminder, I think I just saw it on another thread. Sounds like others would like to eat them too, I hate fish of any kind (to eat), so it is all "yuk!" to me. Sometimes having something to take care of keeps your mind from always wandering back to your problems. Who knows, it looks like we all have pets of one kind or another here.

doesn't someone help them? My two cats (boys) always have Christmas presents for my moms two cats (girls). I help, but....you might get something shiny and sparkly from your dog, and I don't mean a dog dish

    Cat - I agree, wholeheartedly...
Pets, of any kind... Gardening, too... I also feed the wild birds in my backyard, love to watch them.

I call ALL of it HOLISTIC THERAPY. Taking care of something living - and reaping the subsequent rewards - is healing for the soul, I believe. And, yes, takes us outside of ourselves. A welcome respite.

By the way, having/keeping/watching FISH - in particular - is proven to be CALMING. (Be interesting to see if tasha replies to THAT!) Which is why aquariums are so often found in doctor/dental/hospital/etc. reception areas.

    Kind regards, 12/25

HA HA!!! Well, now that you've mentioned it...
Yes, my dog gets presents for OTHER people & their pets. Of course, she needs my help with the money, shopping, wrapping...

She just doesn't get presents for ME!!! :-)

Well... Not on a REGULAR basis, I'll have to now admit. Every once in a great while, my husband might remember to help her, on my behalf. I just can't count on it... You know, men... They just don't get the concept of RETAIL THERAPY!!!

    Doggie presents
Our dogs get Christmas presents and they give birthday cards and gifts to our children. Why wouldn't they? They are bona fide family members. Now the turtle...she's on her own, but awful cute. Lynn

oh so sorry for kitty and congrats on
are these babies Aorti? (plural for Aortus) I have hundreds of mosquito fish, maybe I should just have Aortus be their Godfishy too! Hope the kitty is ok, hard to help them when they don't understand your human speak. One of my kitties had been bitten by a rattlesnake, almost lost him, his head swelled twice it's size (and not ego), and he lost all motor control. took him to the vet and they wouldn't give me any hope, but he pulled through ( lost 7 of his 9 lives). I have the catnip growing in the backyard and they munch on it whenever. Yes they are funny to watch, kinda like our 420 right?

Your poor cat! Is he better, healing? Hope so...
