On Gemzar and CA 125 Rising

Hi, Anybody ever experience while being on Gemzar have there CA 125 increase. Mine was at 94 and now after two treatments of Gemxar it's now at 128.Had chemo today and it is doing a number on my counts I will be getting my first shot of Neulasta tomorrow to bring my counts back up.

    Hi Terry, I have had 4 cycles of gemzar and cispalatin. Although my count continues to go down, it has fluctuated during the month (up a bit) before doing that. From reading the posts on this board, it seems that does happen sometimes. I pray yours will take the turn and trend down soon!! Take care. Warm hugs, kathleen:)

    Hi Terry, sorry to hear your numbers havent' dropped yet. I think it was the 3rd regimen mine finally went down a bit and then they just held there. I was lucky to get a dose every 3 weeks in the beginning though and now I am on 2 weeks and off 2 weeks. My doc seems to like to do 3 before he decides if its working or not. I get 2 days of neuprogren after each treatment. What is your treatment regimen and what did your doc say?

    Hi Bonnie, I was suppose to get it for 3 weeks and 1 week off. My counts were so low, I still don't know for sure but it looks to be 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. I will be getting a Neulasta shot, which I have never had before. I've only seen the PA not the Onc so far. I will be going to my Gyn/Onc May 12th in Lehigh Valley, it's about a 1/12 hour drive. I will be asking questions. I don't want to be on a chemo that isn't working like I had when I was on Doxil.I have never been in remission, but I'm going to ask if I could take a break in August , I would like to go away. I've beeen on non-stop chemo for 13 months.

    Hi Ladyjogger31 -- just checking in to see how you tolerated your Neulasta shot. I hope the pain wasn't too bad for you. When I took it, I was out of commission for 3 days. Stay strong.

    Neulasta & pain
    I didn't get a Neulasta shot until my 4th month of chemo, as my oncologist is a big believer in using TIME between chemos to see if your counts can recover on their own. But by my 4th month of chemo, my white counts really tanked badly and he gave me a Neulasta shot. I was ready for the awful bone pain everyone talks about,...but never felt a THING! My oncologist said when your blood counts are really really low, there's plenty of room in your bones for the Neulasta-induced multiplying of your white cells, and if there is plenty of room within that enclosed space, you won't have bone pain. I guess my bone marrow was just about HOLLOW! HA! I hope your Neulasta experience was an effortless as mine. I've switched from chemo now to pelvic radiation (I don't have ovarian cancer; I have a rare form of Grade 3 papillary serous uterine cancer with a similar prognosis as ovarian cancer), and although I am 2/3 of the way through my external radiation, there is no blood monitoring during radiation treatment I guess until the very end which should be June 9th for me.
