What to do--- My job went away

Found out yesterday that because of the downturn in the economy I don't have a job to go back to. They might offer me a part time position but there are no guaranted number of hours.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO what the heck am I supposed to do now ????
No income, no health insurance, no where to live.
The local[SW Florida] economy is in the toilet. There just arn't any jobs to be had.
I do own my P/U truck. I could get a camper top or a small trailer and live in it.
I don't know what to do and I'm feeling rather crappy about this whole mess.
It will take months until the bank forcloses so at least I have a little time.
Any Ideas??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Sorry to hear this, Bill!
I don't have any specific advice about jobs, Bill. But there are a couple of things I'd like to remind you about.

First, you are a tough and resourceful survivor. It's bad enough to deal with BC when you are surrounded by helpful, loving family and friends. You walked that terrible road alone, and you made it. I realize that losing your job is bad. But you've dealt with worse, and won.

Second, you seem extremely portable. I don't know if you would need to live in your truck, but if there's nothing keeping you in Florida, have you considered moving? I know there are a lot of people looking for jobs all over the country. But it's pretty hard for me to imagine any of them to be more determined than a man who beat BC with no personal caregivers other than himself.

    Best,
    Joe

    Sorry to hear about that
    Bill,
So sorry to hear about that. Wish I knew of something. But like the other comment, you do sound pretty portable. I know economy is bad everywhere, but have you thought of moving if you don't find something soon?
I know this might sound trivial but I will be praying for you that you will find something soon!

    I had heard Florida was
I had heard Florida was having a bad time with housing also. Property values dropped. I think we said it all to Julia when she was looking. She found something. I hope you do too. It's harder when you are over 50 but not impossible. Depends on what skills you have. May have to move where the jobs are but you can always move back to Florida later.

    So sorry Bill
What kind of job do you do? I would contact job service and maybe even if you have to relocate, it could be a new beginning. When one door closes another is opened, just have to search for it. I know it is not easy in these days and times. And did you check with medicaid for your medical bills? I am wishing you the best of luck.

    disability
Bill, first thing to do is apply for unemployment and disability. I lost my job of 26 years some 4 years ago. Due to my cancer and the lymphedema (no one will hire me) I am currently on disability with SSI. It is an avenue you may want to explore, it is not permanent but helpful while you are getting well again and will buy you some time to find new employment. I had to apply three times (the last time with a lawyer) as they do not usually just okay it, they make ya work for it. It also give you medical (medicare) which has proven to be quite valuable. My best to you Bill, let is know how things go!

    HUGS,

    Bummer...
Hey, Bill. So sorry about your job loss. Darn it - when ir rains, it pours. I've got a pretty good idea about just how bad it is in SW Florida. A very good friend lives in Cape Coral, moved there about 2 years ago, from Ft. Myers. Not much I can add here, other than to echo what others have already advised. Maybe hard to get motivated to do anything... But, don't wait. Go apply for unemployment & Medicaid benefits, whatever you can get, right away. At least, it'll buy you some time while you figure out what to do next. Best of luck to you.

    Kind regards, Susan

So sorry to read your latest post, it just isn't right this stuff, so what if you have no insurance, do they just let you disintegrate then kick you to the curb?..Is This a third world country you are living in? I come from England, we have NHS coverage from the day we are born and nobody suffers (well apart from the overloaded system) and this from one of the SMALLEST countries in the world. Great to see you still have your wonderful sense of humour .. "They can't take that away from me"...sing along....
Anyway, get onto every agency that you can...... THEY OWE YOU!!!!!!!!! G'luck J xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    my take on this...
is that if they offer you a part-time position, take it. It buys you food even if you have to live in your truck. Also, working part time means you have hours to look for something better. Use the internet and any and all other resources you can find to put yourself out there.
If you need to leave Florida, so be it. But don't come to Arkansas! LOL No offense, but things are no better here...just ask my son who has a college degree and can't find a job anywhere.
As mentioned by others, research your options in any and all government agencies for unemployment. This is not the time to be squeamish about taking what used to be called 'a hand out'. Now it is called 'survival benefits'.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Glad to know you got help, labtech
Not to get all political here, but some people in our government tend to forget what a certain carpenter from Nazareth once observed: "Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto Me." I am so glad you and your son found help, and I wish Bill and all of the other people who have lost their jobs the very best.

Hello, labtech. So sorry about your job loss. There's just too much of this. Too many good people, responsible & hard workers, out of work through no fault of their own. The darned economy is bad enough; in your case, your illness = a double whammy. Am glad you were able to secure some assistance, for you & your little guy. I'm hoping your post inspires Bill to move forward & do the same.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Part time
Part time can be as little as 4 hours per pay period (every 2 weeks) Don't think that will buy many groceries.

    Sure feels alone
I know that there are thousands out of work right now and I'm just one of them. I have some time until the roof falls in. Banks don't want to forclose , credit card companies would rather have something than nothing.
Bottom line--- I will survive-- one way or the other.
    I have to.

    No Job
    Hi Bill,
I am sorry about the job. I lost mine because of b/c also. One of the places that can help financially is the American Cancer Society. Check with your local branch, or the one closest to you. Where's that dam chicken when you need it!!!!LOL

    Lost Job
Bill I can definitely feel for ya. I live in the Bay Area of Fl and it is really bad right now. If it were not for my sister and being a vet I do not know what I would have done. What also is bad is there is no help out there if you are not female and have small children. I will be returning to the work force hopefully in September. I sure hope the job market returns by then.
