Swollen.....

Is it normal for a mouth sore to hurt so bad that you can barely eat, or open your mouth, and it seems alittle swollen on the jawline?? I didn't think they'd hurt this bad.

    For some I think it is. I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem. There is a rinse that they have, check with your oncologist. Gly-oxide is pretty good. It's over the counter. Wish I new more tips but I didn't have any sores in my mouth from treatment. God bless.

    Unfortunatly that can happen (when on chemo). Splits on the sides of your mouth and also, Thrush on the inside of your mouth (they are white patches on tongue and inside area).

    There is a rinse (and I have forgotten the name of it but your Nurses will know).

    What helped me (with the cracks on the sides of mouth) was the Carmex that is in the little white bottle with a yellow cap.

    Hang in there. You are doing great and have a great attitude about all that is going on.

    Keep your energy for moving forward like you have been.

    They hurt real bad sometimes and here is what worked for me, a mouthwash with benedryl, Maalox, and lidocaine.. worked fast and healing happened in a few days.

    My hubby had a doctor appt for himself in Columbus, so he stopped by my doctors on the way from there and she gave him a prescription for me to get the Miracle Mouthwash, just waiting for him to come home with it :)

    Donna, it really is Miracle! It took away all my mouth sores, and very quickly. I wear an upper denture, which hastened the sores because of hording the bacteria under there. The only thing it did not help was my lips...they were cracked and swollen the whole time I was on chemo.

    WoW...
    It numbs the heck out of it, doesn't it.. I feel like I Just walked out of a dentist office..it makes it feel better, I just hope it makes it all go away soon..these are horrible!

    mouth problems and ulcers
    One of the best treatments I ever used for mouth problems was one that was suggested by an old retired nurse. It was half a teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of bi-carb soda in a glass of warm water. The chemo I was on did not cause neuropathy or temp sensitivity so I used to suck on a fruit flavoured ice block during chemo and put an ice pack on my eyes to stop irritation. Both helped but the problems with the older chemo was nausea so at times the iceblocks bounced straight back. Cheers, Ron.
