edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
I got a call last night from the clinic, I will take the nexavar(2 tablets) twice a day and get gemzar once a week for 3 weeks with 1 week off. A little nervous about the gemzar, I was so short of breath last time and ran such high fevers, plus my cancer grew grew grew. Hopefully with the combination it will be different this time.

Also my friend, Polly,(some of you may remember Polly she went by shortstuff), got toxic poisoning from the gemzar, ended up on oxygen and died. So you can see why just a little nervous, but still worth trying.

REACH is covering all but 10% of the nexavar(sorarenib) and gemzar is for ovarian cancer. Saying many thanks to the Lord for this new drug, for leading the Drs in my treatments and for each of you. :-)

Just got up and going through posts and emails ~ I'll be back later to check on everyone. Hugs N Prayers Bonnie

    A go..........
    Bonnie,

A praise the Lord for you and your news. I would be nervous, too. But like you said with the combo - It WILL be different for you. We will pray that is so.

I just started up Monday with my Hexalen again. It too makes me nervous as I have no one to talk to about the useage (except second or third hand info) and at least with chemo we get to take all those other meds for side effects.

Amazing what our bodies can actually go thru. We truly are wonderfully made.

    Love,
    Libby

    DEAR BONNIE
What a positive outlook you have! And I know those fleshly feelings of fear and anxiety still creep up from time to time - to be expected. But you know that we will all be praying for an easy go with this plan, and much success and healing, and for your strength.

Is there any way to reduce the toxicity of the Gemzar? I know, who wants to eat or drink when you feel so horrible, but they always told me to drink a lot of water after chemo to flush it through my system. I suppose it's a double-edged sword - you need it there to attack the cancer cells, but you also need to get it out of the other tissues and organs that don't need it.

Well, we'll be waiting to hear how your treatments are going. Much love and hugs, and of course, PRAYERS.

    Luv you bunches!
    Monika

P.S. I just can't seem to get those cute symbols in my text!

Dear Bonnie, you will be on my mind all day today and I will be lifting up prayers for you often throughout the day and night. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance of things HOPED for" and I know you have great faith to put to use at this time. We all hope for you that this combination is just the thing that will bring those cells under control. You are such a brave warrior and we all admire you and look to you so much. Thanks for being there for us. Hugs & Prayers, Saundra

    Hi Bonnie,
I want you to know you’re in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping this combination will kick it in the butt. You are such an inspiration to me and all our other OVCA sisters fighting this horrible disease. Please keep positive and let us know how the treatments are going.

So glad to hear a Go!
Bonnie thanks for updating. I have been thinking and praying for you daily. Pray that gemzar and nexavar will do the trick for you. I hadn't heard of gemzar's toxicity, but can undertand your concerns. Do they give it IV with a lot of hydration like the cisplatin?
Lot's of hugs and prayers for you today,
    Kathleen

    Hi,
I have been reading about you for some time now, and have to tell you that you are a real trooper!! Good luck with the new treatment and I will be watching closely how you are going. I'm from Australia and it seems every country deals with ovca differently with regards the chemo treatments and trials,
