Next month I go to see the Ob-onconligist, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan. 08 still doing reconstruction, finished 4 rounds A/C, bilateral masctomy, and 8 rounds taxol was supposted to have 12 but it hit me hard so dose 8 was 9-12 terable side effects, I am BRCA1 pos, HPV pos, and had pre-cancerous leasson removed in May of 06, week later found out I was with child, then after c-section I had a clear pap. Ok my question is what can i expect from my first visit with my ob-oncon, it the same as a regular ob dr. or do they do some thing different, because I had my port taken out with the sugery I had almost 3wks ago? any advice or information would be great, im nervous.

    Should be the same
    Hi Heather,

First what a great picture of you and your little one. :-) Now your appt won't be much different. I would imagine they will talk to you about having a hysterectomy. I have a brca mutate also adn they spoke to me about having my breasts removed for prevention. I opted not to but some women I know do the preventitive surgerys for both ovarian and breast cancer. Hope that helped you be less nervous and I didn't add to your anxieties. Hugs Bonnie

    Thank You
Iam worried because my oncoligist has all ready talked to me about a hestorectomy and removing my overies because of the type of cancer and the aggression that I have but like I said in my previous post my mom had brest cancer, her sister is BRCA pos and so is my mom and myself.

    Thank you,
    Heather

    BRCA
I ended up being negative for the BRCA genes but the plan was to have the prophylactic mastectomy because the risk of getting breast cancer was so high. If it were the opposite I would have chosen to have the hysterectomy also. The risk is so high when you are positive - I couldn't possible do the wait and see game. It's hard enough having cancer and wondering each and every day when it's going to return.

My best to you. Your baby is beautiful!

    Gyn/Onc.
The exam is the same. He may order a regular CT scan and CA-125 blood test and just check you more often that the regular annual exam or want to do the surgery. I don't know if I am BRCA1 postitive so know little of what would be done after breast diagnosis. Keep us posted. ((Hugs))) Saundra
