Hypercholesterolemia after Treatment

Prior to radiation and chemo, my lipid profile was normal, 6 months after finishing radiation on Dec 2007 my lipid profile was still normal. Now, 17 months later, my lipid profile is totally abnormal and the test was repeated and still came out abnormal. I have been with a very healthy diet since I was able to eat again and don't understand why. My PCP says that this is 2ry to my chemo and radiation where my metabolism was very much affected and should be back to normal within 6 months to a year and recommended to begin treatment in the meantime but my cardiologist (I don't have any cardiological issues), thinks that this could be familiar hypercholesterolemia. Has anyone of you experienced anything similar? I will start treatment with superstatins next week.
