2 Years Today!!!

Hi all,
Today was 2 years since my stage III rectal cancer diagnosis. To celebrate, my husband and I went and bought a new Jeep. It was my way of staying positive that I will continue to be healthy and make car payments for 5 more years!!! Tomorrow is my CT scan and while I am normally nervous, buying a car was a great distraction. I will find out the results on Monday. Assuming everything comes back good I will be getting my port out.
To all the recently diagnosed. Two years ago tonight I went to bed so afraid that words could not describe it. My world had been turned upside down. I had no idea what was going to happen to me. Over the next 9 months I went thru chemo/radiation, surgery (APR and hysterectomy), more chemo, a broken foot, and then bowel obstruction surgery. I never thought my life would be "normal" again. Well for the most part it has returned to the routine. I work, I play, take vacations, procrastinate cleaning the house, wrestle with the dogs, and am bossy as ever with my sweet husband. Even with my permanent septic tank, it doesn't slowy me down. I still have my funky 'blue' days and have dealt with some lingering depression, but I am here.....living.....and that is all that matters. I ask that you all could pray for me and send positive energy that my CT will continue to show NED. I will let you all know how it turns out.

Kiersten

    CONGRATS!!!
That's just wonderful, Kiersten! You're definitely an inspiration to me having almost the exact same cancer, and being young, and surviving as you have; with strength and dignity! I wish i could get used to my ostomy as you have. It has been the bane of my existance since it came into being almost a year ago. And mine isn't even permanent!! You make me believe i can stand it just two more months, if not a lifetime!

Good luck with tomorrows CT. I just know it will reveal NED! (hey, i made a rhyme!)

    Many hugs,
    Krista

    sending prayers
    Hi,

I'll be interested in hearing your CT results too. You're one year beyond me- I was diagnosed 13 months ago but am now going through chemo again due to my recent PET in August showing growth in my right lung. I haven't been rescanned since starting yet (today was my 4th treatment), but my bloodwork CEA count today did show a reduction. My count was never that high (17.6 at the time my PET showed the activity). Today it was 7.5. My count was in the two hundreds when I was first diagnosed in Aug. '07.
I sure hope and pray that your CT shows NOTHING!!!!
If it does, however, we know it isn't the end of the world- this can be treated, as I'm currently dealing with. I still manage to stay pretty positive most of the time & know God holds my life in His hands, as he does your life also.
Have fun with the new car!! (I'm jealous!)

    Great Post!
    Hi Kiersten,

Thanks for giving hope to so many people who are just beginning their journey. Your story will inspire others and give them a gentle push to keep on going.

Congratulations on the new jeep. I remember when I went through treatments, I bought clothes at the end of a season....my way of telling myself I would be here the following year to wear them.

Let us know about your CT scans.

    Hugs,

    Kay

Congratulations on your two-year mark!! Buying a car is a great way to keep hope alive...I'm already contemplating hitting up my husband for an end-of-chemo piece of jewelry.

I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes for NED!

    With all you've been through
With all you've been through you deserve the jeep and a mini vacation to drive it to. What about custom plates? You are an inspiration. I have 3 more chemo sessions to get through and i can't wait to be "normal" again. It is so nice to hear from people that lived it and are living life again. Congrats to you and I'm sending good vibes all scans will be NED. :)

Congratulations, Kiersten! Your posts were the first ones my eyes fell on (probably because our names are so similar), and your absolute refusal to let this disease knock you on your butt has been such an inspiration to many of us. You have dealt with all kinds of knocks and slaps during your treatment and you have done it with grace. As I've said before, you are my hero! Enjoy the jeep payments! Enjoy your life!

    Hugs,

Congratulations on your two year mark! My husband is just a few days behind you with stage III rectal cancer as well. Yes, the last 2 years have been a rollercoaster of events, but we made it! I will say a prayer and send you positive thoughts for a great check up and scan. I am sure it will all be fine and you will be getting your port out. Enjoy your weekend Kiersten and have fun with your new jeep!
