This is for a friend who has a recurrence of prostrate cancer with Mets in lung, liver and brain. He is a retired Marine. To make a long story short, he hade a bad experience with VA many years ago so he never got into the system. Seveal of his friends convinced him he needed to apply for benefits. My question is Do you know of any way to expidite the paperwork? I am not sure he will survive the year most claims take to get approved.

I do not know if this issue
I do not know if this issue has been resolved, but the proper procedure is to visit your nearest office of Veterans Affairs. Another outlet is in most states, there is an agency to assist veterans. In our state, it is the Office of Veterans Services. Most are located within driving distance for the veteran. The claim must be started and I think the form is VA Form 21-4138. With the thousands of claims from the Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts, it will be difficult to have it expedited.

The national Veteran Organizations (DAV, VFW and American Legion) have service officers. Have the veteran ask them for assistance. Good luck.
