From 500 down to 12

Writing to comment that my wife Linda received notice Friday during chemo that her CA-125 number has now dropped to 12. Before we started treatment with surgery October 1st her counts were over 500 with pronounced ascites. Fortunately the chemo stopped the abdominal swelling immediately. And now the CA-125 numbers have dropped. Of course the unknown is whether that just means the cancer cells that put out the markers are dying... or all the cancer cells. There is no way to know whether the two are precisely connected. But we do take this to be relatively good news. She's exhausted on occasion from cisplatin/Gemzar...and we missed a round with low blood cell counts, but we're back on the train with Neulasta and other blood boosters. So we'll see. I'm sure you all know how we have that guarded hope to work with.

    Lindachris,
I think that those numbers are a cause for a celebration!!!Down is down and definetly in the right direction!!! I can understand being afraid to feel like celebrating but you got to think positive. Don't worry about if there are different cells in there. I have the same condition that your talking about I have more than 1 type of cancer cell, so some of the chemo works and others don't but like you said, which cells are not responding? I had a second look surgery after finishing my first cycle, and there was where they saw the different cells, so I had another 6 cycles of Doxil. Maybe this should be something to bring up with the Onc? Anywho...party...you have good reason to be enthusiastic and happy right now...(((hugz)))..Joanne
