Good Day Ladies,
Presently I am on Chemo to shrink the tumor. Has anyone taken Herceptin before surgery? Thanks Deb

    Hi Deb
I didn't have Herceptin (I'm HER2neg) but I did have neoadjuvant treatment and had a complete pathological response in the primary tumor (my nodes were still pos). From everything I've read - women who have a response with neoadjuvant fare better (less likely to have a recurrence). I haven't heard about neo Herceptin, but that doesn't mean anything - there's a whole lot of things that I don't anything about.

I am presently finishing 6 months on Herceptin. My tumor was originally about the size of a boiled egg. after 3 months of Herceptin by injection once a week, the tumor was completely gone, just little shadowy areas in the tissue on the followu-up mammogram/ultrasound. I finish the last treatment Nov. 26, then have double mastectomy Dec. 21 with radiation and resonstruction to follow. I have been fortunate to have very few neg. side effects. I have had hairloss (still have baby fuzz) and have to limit raw veggies so I don't get diarhea. I have chemo-induced early menopause with no period and moderate hot/cold flashes, and very mild tingling in the toes and fingers. I have gotten gradually more tired as time has gone on, but have kept working full-time in an elementary school, and have done most of what I want to do. I hope you have it as well as I have, or better!

    Best wishes, seof
