I've had bc 2 times...my daughter is pregnant due in Dec...last week she found a lump in her breast(she is 26)...the doctor drained the lump but this week this is back...I'm wondering if this breast stuff will ever end...they plan on sending her to a surgeon if the lump comes back..I'm praying hard that it doesn't..but geez...I read your stories and wonder how you all keep so upbeat...thanks for being here

    It is very common for women her age to get breast cysts. They can become swollen and hurt, but they aren't the same as cancer. Sometimes infections set in. They can cause redness, pain, and swelling. Breast surgeons are trained to do more than just cancer. I hope they keep her history in mind, just in case, but hopefully it won't be bc.

    I agree with cabbott. Cysts are very common, and fortunately harmless. The only thing to watch is if they become infected. The resulting abscess often needs surgical drainage. I fought that problem for a year before being dx with bc. If the cysts keep coming back, have your daughter ask about a breast MRI. It can confirm whether or not this is a single area or if more are involved. Surgery is straightforward, and when done properly, doesn't interfere with nursing.
