Merv Griffin died of prostate cancer.

Does anyone in this group has read anything related to the type of prostate cancer Mr. Griffin had in 1996? I understand it is rather unlikely to have a recurrance after 11 years. If the prostate is removed, there is no chance to return, unless he had radiation and seed implant. I had radiation and seed implant in 1998 and the news about Mr. Griffin, worries me.

Thank you, Bert.

Having the prostate removed or any other treatment does not mean that prostate cancer will not end one's life. In my case it has metastisized but it is still considered to be prostate cancer though it may or may not be in the prostate. I had hormone therapy and radiation and a very poor diagnosis but have survived fairly well in spite of what the doctors said. Merv probably had mets to the bone and the prostate cancer finally took over his entire system. It does no good to worry and I do not waste time even considering the possibility of this disease ending my life. His cancer did not come back it just was never totally gone. It happens. Stay calm and avoid stress.

Thanks Mark. My oncologist used the word "cure" 5 years after ny procedure. He told me that I will die of something else but NOT of PC. These words were so encouraging that I practicaly don't even think about it. My PSA has been 0.01 since 2001. I see my doctor once a year in November.

I wish you well Mark.

Hi Bert

Mark is right in what he says. Both he and I have similar grades of cancer and have mets also. I haven't survived as long as him but expect to do so. I know hearing of people dying of PC always sends a little shudder through me but then I think it is not going to happen to me and carry on life under the hormone therapy.

The good doctors will tell you cancer never goes away it goes into remission. So don't worry, enjoy life and if it comes back then face the challenge then.
All the best

I admire your courage and treasure your answer. You will do just fine.

Thanks, Bert
