I AM A FIVE YEAR BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR!!!!!

Five years ago today, July 9, I had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction surgery.

Before and after my surgery I cried daily, I posted on this site regurlarly for months. Looking for anything and everything, that would tell me I'd be OK but not believe any of it. I knew that my life was over. My life as I knew it. I was 47 how could I live, I didn't want to live without my breast. I knew I would not survive the cancer, the chemo, the altering of my body.

Well I'm proud to say that I am a FIVE YEAR Breast Cancer Survivor.

I use to hate hearing all the rainbow at the end of the storm responses, the birds will sing again, the sun will shine again. Life is good and will be good again.

Well they were right. Life is good. The sun does shine brighter.

So if you are at the beginning of your journey, yes it's a journey, there are some awful things we must go through. Don't be afraid, you will learn things about yourself, you will learn how strong you are even at your lowest. How else can we survive without our inner strengths.

Every year is a victory. So I just want to thank all those ladies that responded to my inquiries, Thank you for sharing and encouraging me.

Life is good, We are survivors each and every moment of the day we are given.

Thanks

    Hey Still Good,

Thanks for sharing your wonderful news with us. For those that are out of treatments it is a real uplifting time when we see yet another person continging to beat the beast year after year.... For me I am at 2 years..... but 5 years... is great and I know that there are others here at 20 years..... But it is always uplifting when you hear about someone else beating the beast... So Happy Dance for you...

That is wonderful news. Yes there is life while surviving breast cancer. It is not a death sentance. I have been a survivor for over 11 years. Still I remember the fear and sorrow and yes the surgeries and such. But I agree, I look at life differently. When I have a bad day, I thank God I am alive to have a bad day....Just my two cents here.

stillgood, Congradulations on your five years! I remember going through the one year, then the next etc. I had double bilateral's at the age of 38 and am happy to say that this August will be my 21 year being cancer free....the sun continues to shine brightly. Wishing you many more years.
