edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
(This is my second try posting) My friend Mark had some lousy news today. Would you believe on the one year anniversary to the day that he was told by the doctor he had stage IV rectal cancer? Talk about bad luck. They've given him two options 1) Ironotecan (sp) with Erbitux 2) a new trial - so new the drug does not have a name. It is #3CO62. Does anyone have any thoughts/knowledge/feedback about either or both? I really need some input so I can give Mark some encouraging words of some sort. Thanks so much.

    Hi,
My Dad has been on the Irinotecan/Erbitux combo for over a year now. He has been doing really well. His side effects have been minimal and he has shown no evidence of disease the whole time. He was diagnosed in 2004 with stage IV colon cancer, NED after 6 months of treatment, reoccurence in 2005. Hope this helps.

    Best Wishes,

I'd be inclined to go with the regimen that's showed some success-the irinotecan/erbitux schedule.

Thanks Deneen and Mary. The doctor said there is only a 10% chance of recovery from the iron/erbitux so he is making the trial look like the way to go. That is what the last doctor did - came on board for a minute, made Mark feel guilty about considering anything but the trial and look where he is not. It didn't work. Thanks again for your response. I'm going to post another asking if anyone's heard of this drug.

Deneen, what regimen was your Dad on that gave him NED? Was the cancer in his liver and/or lungs? Mark's tumors are in both and very extensive. Thanks for your feedback.

My Dad had 1 spot on the liver initially. His original treatment was Folfox w/Avastin. When he had the recurrence he then had 3 spots on his liver. The irinotecan/erbitux started shrinking things at frist and now they don't see anything. Also, right from the start my dad had evidence of disease in his peritoneum and omentum. They don't see anything there either now. I wish Mark the best.

Sorry to hear about Mark and the trial. Not sure what you should do, but I would sure try to find out more about that #3CO62 - even if you can't get "track record" info, how is it supposed to work, what's the theory etc. I think you both need to understand a bit more about it to make an informed decision.

I know how hard this must be,
