Hi everyone. I'm a caregiver for my husband who is recovering from CRC. I had my second routine colonoscopy yesterday and thankfully, I got a good report. My first scope was done at age 50, so it was time for another. I was nervous, not for me, but for what would happen if both of us had to contend with this illness. Thankfully I am well and can continue nursing my sweet husband through his recovery. The preparation was awful to swallow; I gagged most of it back up, but got enough down to do the trick. Thanks for all the good advice I received about the preparation and how to get it down the hatch.

Thanks Patrusha and Lisa. I appreciate the good wishes. My hubby told me this morning that he's tired of hurting all the time. (One of those down days.) I'll give him a hug when I see him at lunch!

Happy about your results. The prep sucks so much more than the test, doesn't it?

The prep is AWFUL. I'll bet if we could line up all the GI doctors and force this stuff down their throats one among them would come up with something more tolerable!

Happy to hear that your scope result was good. I have another subject I wish to discuss with you. As the caregiver for your husband with colorectal, it sounds like you must work outside the home? If this is the case, how to you keep up with everything? My husband was dx'd with colorectal on April 6, had chemo/rads and finally surgery on August 1. They put in a colostomy and just sewed him back up as not curable. I have not taken these news well at all and am having a terrible time to just function. I can't stand to leave him so I can work, I just feel like this is the best it's ever going to be so I want to spend all my time with him. My employer is being wonderful to me but I know it can't continue as it is indefinitely. I've considered taking early retirement so I can be with him all the time, but I hate to do that. When I lose him, I will have to work - I could not take just staying at home and "thinking". What difficulties are you dealing with and any suggestions how I can get a grip and handle our situation more effectively to be a better caregiver for him. I know when my emotions are on a roller-coaster, I'm unable to be at my best to care for him. This was long, but I appreciate it if you can give some ideas. Thank you.
