My oncologist is recommending Erbitux with Avastin for me.

Has anyone had great success using erbitux?

If so, what did you combine it with?

How was quality of life? (acne, fatigue, etc.)

I have had metastatic colon cancer for almost 4 years and have had surgery to both lungs, colon, and liver. I used Avastin with low doses of 5FU for about 11 months last year and it worked well in holding the cancer at bay, and leaving me with a pretty decent quality of life until about May O6 when my CEA started to climb again. I haven't taken anything except ammonium tetrathiomolybdate (TM) since May, but my latest (August 06) CAT scan shows some progression of disease in both lungs. compared to December 05.

My liver can't take much more abuse due to hepatic arterial injection chemo a few years ago.

I wanted to wait on panitumimab (works similar to erbitux) but I'm told it may be December 06 before it is available with the earliest date being September 06.

Anyone have better estimate on the panitumumab or tried it in a trial?

I was on Erbitux-Avastin monotherapy for a couple of months & stopped in early April. CEA went down,
but subsequent scans indicate lung mets still growing. I did have the erbitux rash, medium to severe, which pretty much went away after stopping.
I'm scheduled to go under the knife for a sciatic problem, and Onc wants to resume Avastin Erbitux asap after the surgery. He thinks it was working..
but I think the best it can do with stage IV is to buy a little time. Bud

My husband had Erbitux and Irrotecan after reoccurence mestasis to pelvic region. The chemo shrunk the mass about 14% and then stopped. The Erbitux gave him a nasty rash. Cleared up now. As far as panitumumab we were told that it works similar to Erbitux and since he took that drug and it didn't work that it would be better for him to do a trial. We are looking into S-1 and other standard therapy.
