Flex-sig results-anesthesia problems

Flex sig results look good. Dr. biopsied one spot but he believes it to be related to my surgery. Said he definately didn't see any cancer. Still doesn't know what caused the PET to light up. He thinks it could be that same spot he biopsied. I think I will feel better when he can tell me for sure.
The sedation drugs hit me hard and I haven't been able to keep anything on my stomach until today-test was Monday. He uses versed and demerol. This has been a problem for my last three endoscopies, but not the previous ones. Would like to know if anyone else has this problem and if there's any help! Phenergan and Zofran didn't do much.

    Hi Wendy. It's good to know that the doctor feels good about the one spot, but of course I can understand that you will feel better when he can be more definite.

    I don't know about the problems with Demorol + Versed. But I do know that my father has some crazy, sadistic doctor that performs flex sig tests with no sedation ... so that might be an option if you can stand it. I always want sedation for a flex sigmoid, but I guess it can be done without any drugs.

    I've never been drugged for my 3 flex sigs to date. I have driven myself to and from the last 2 I have had and one involved over 8 biopsies. I seem to be one of those that can take pain pretty well and after growing up in a "medical" household, some of it just isn't that big of deal to me.

    That all being said, a flex sig with no meds and an anal fissure about got a doctor and his nurse killed before I had the fissure "fixed".

    I'm with Lisa: never had any drugs for a sig. I can't even tell you how many I've had. At least one every 3 months now. A little pressure feeling then it's over.

    Glad the news is good.

    I have never had a Flex Sig (and never want one!) - only colonoscopies. But, there are many sedatives. I have seen three people in various situations on demerol and they have been pretty nutty. I had it once and while the effects did not linger, I had some wierd reactions and perceptions while on it. When I have colonoscopies my GI doc anesthesiologists use Propofol. Very quick to go out and very quick recovery - virtually no lingering effects. You might ask about this. I knew about this drug from veterinary medicine where it has a good rep, but have now had it for two colonoscopies and as induction for colon surgery, and I am a huge fan (as much as you can be a fan of such a drug).

    So while you might want to try a cold turkey flex sig next time, you might also want to seriously discuss different anesthetic protocols with your doctor.

    I actually joked with my doc during my flex sig...no sedation needed...only wierd feeling was when he would 'puff' to open the area...
    I actually asked for a guided tour...He laughed at the end and said that was the first time anyone ever asked for THAT...hehehehe

    I had a very bad reaction on Demerol. I asked my reg dr to put it on my chart that I don't get it any more. I couldn't stop throwing up. Very dizzy. They gave me something to stop the naucea but I was in the hospital so I have no idea what it was. I know for my colonoscopy what they gave me for anestesia was great. I went under fine and woke up easy. No after effects. They said it was something new. Maybe it is the same thing that Betsey got. Good luck and I'm glad for the good results.
