Scusey me for takin up writin space but just have to tell you this. When us palooza guys n gals "walked the walk" I just could not believe the the incredible energy in the stadium. Yes, I did cry, so did Jen and so did just about everyone there. Correction...I think they all did! When we were taken for the "survivors meal" and were realaxing and eating dinner a very young girl(youngest survivor) came around giving out survivor pins to us all. I asked her if I could give her a kiss on the cheek and a hugg. She said "sure" much to my surprise. After she had done the rounds of the stadium with her pins she came back and said to me "thank you for the kiss". Jen looked at me and said, "what a wonderfull thing to do".....I thought so too!
Next Jen and I went back into the stadium to buy 2 necklace pendants. A survivor and a courage pendant. The young girl in her teens wearing a survivor t-shirt(who was bald from chemo) that sold us the pendants saw me with a survivor t-shirt on and leant over to give me and Jen a hugg then we held hands....a "silent" message was passed. Do you know that I cried right there and then!
Why?.........I think because we who survive...we who continue to fight all know that no matter who cancer touches we all need to reach out. Jen and I were touched not only by the love and energy in that stadium but also by the wonderfull things we felt when "touched" by both these young girls. Those 2 moments will live with us forever.
That was but one of our stories.

    DARN it, there goes the eye leaking AGAIN!
    (I hope no one EVER finds a cure to this 'side effect' of fighting the beast!...just make more tissue, please)

    I tear up just thinking about Relay for Life. All the events I have been a part of have been so powerful and emotional. It is often my 'coping mechanism' on the tough days. I take a few minutes to relax and remember all the strength and positive energy at past events. It gets me through.

    Now pass the tissue, please!

    I have gone to numerous RFL events...my husband is an 8 year survivor. This was the first year I went as a survivor. While it has always been emotional for me, it was very different this year. As I looked around and saw all the long-term survivors I felt a strong sense of empowerment. Strangers came up and gave us hugs and encouragement!
    I was worried about being able to walk the first lap as I was 3 weeks post-op. As my husband and I walked the first lap hand in hand, I found that I felt stronger with each step. Not only did I do the first lap, but THREE more!
    Next year we are going to do a family team with the kids and grandkids...I can't wait!

    the memory of the energy in that stadium will stay with me forever also..it was overwhelming..

    Hi Ross,

    Thanks for the wonderful post and pass me the tissue too. Darn leaking like Kathi. I had both experiences at the Relay. Some teary and some just awed at so many people working towards a cure. I am definately going to all the Relays that I can now. Me and my daughter bought bracelets and wear them all the time.
