Part of me thinks Mark will do well on this chemo, the other part is terrified and wondering if I am being overly optimistic. Has anyone here survived or known anyone that has survived rectal cancer with spots on the liver AND lungs? Mark starts chemo tomorrow. I'm going to do my best to see that he has as little stress as possible. Hard to do with such a mess with his insurance and other affairs he barely has the energy to think about let alone take on and deal with. Medi-cal says it could take up to a year to find out if he's qualified - that's just one of the many stressors. I just updated my CSN site with a new photo of me and Mark from better days.

    Hi musiclover,

I just wanted to say worrying about the chemo is normal. Think this way, if this doesn't totally clear it up, another will. But you need to work on fighting it. I'm sure there are others that will respond just as Lisa P did. Good vibes and loads of HUGS your way and for Mark too. You are a big help to him it sounds like.

I can't be of much help to your question as I was stage 2.I just would like to say that you have had the courage to join us here and share some pretty personal stuff. It all revolves around the urgency you have, as we all have to find out as much info we can about ourselves and our loved ones illness.Although things are really tough for you and Mark right now...keep this in mind. I have a friend here in oz who was dx'd with leukemia 6 years ago and told that his life would probably be cut very short...like within 1-2 years. Technowledgy was such that for the past 6 years he has continued to enjoy life, albiet reserved somewhat while on chemo, that he is still here today. About 2 months ago he was going downhill badly and told to be prepared for the worst. Only recently he was given a new drug and his condition has improved 100% in only 3 weeks....after being told it may well not work. Mark has every chance of beating this....Lisa(Scouty) has done so as have many others. BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to have confidence in your doctor, and continue to explore all avenues of treatment..watch out for the people who lurk and take advantage of your tendency to look for a magic bullet. Look for the science behind it, and the research..it's too early to make a decision tho, and Mark will respond..he is lucky to have you for a caretaker. Question, Question, Question..and keep posting. Bud
