Amgen Tour of California Bike Ride

Hello Semi-conlons!

Yesterday and today the Amgen Tour of California bike ride rolled through San Jose. In first place before today's stage was George Hincape, who rode with Lance on all 7 of his famed Tour de France victories.

Although Lance wasn't here, I felt his presence, through his team mates on the Discovery Channel Team and most of all George, who is leading the Amgen Breakaway from Cancer initiative.

There was a huge "Breakaway from Cancer" board at the race today for folks to sign, especially by those who are effected by cancer, survivors and caregivers. With all of you on my mind, I wrote "Ride and Thrive" for all of us.

As we all know, not all superheroes wear yellow jerseys and ride bikes, some wear chemo pumps and go to work everyday. My thoughts are especially with my friends Lisa who had surgery today and Terri who shows her 7th graderrs everyday what a winner looks like.

So on this beautiful California day, I was just so thankful to be alive, to have come to know you all on this board, and to be able to share our common ride in survivorship.

As Lance said, attitude is everything! Ride and thrive! Any takers for this year's Ride for the Roses in Austin?

    I wish with all my heart that I could pull my "Spider Bicycle" (cobwebs) out of the garage and ride for the roses. Unfortunately the current
    protocol won't allow it, and energy is needed for treatment. Is the Austin ride anywhere close to the semi-colon Palooza? Also in Austin 25 April(?)

    Hi Nanuk:

    oooh, a flashy spider bicycle - it definitely belongs on the road!

    The Austin ride is in Oct. Maybe you'll be over your current treatment by then? I won't get off my 5FU/Oxaliplatin until the end of July myself.

    Also, this is a ride where you don't have to ride much, given that some participants are recent survivors. So, it can be 100mile or 10, your call. If we both go then we can ride together, and keep the sag wagon number handy :)

    I've had one chemo run a week ago. I am feeling so thoroughly great right now I think I'll go for a ride today :) Mind you, my bike is under so much cobwebs too.

    How are you feeling on your chemo? Are you able to eat well, sleep well and exercise? Hope you're doing great!

    Yes, we'll stay in the ride together and beat this thing!

    I tried to sen you an e-mail, but it wouldn't go thru..you have inspired me to dust off my 1983 Trek and take it in for an overhaul. At least it'll be ready if I decide to ride fr the roses..
