Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has any information about the Cancer Treatment Centers of America? I am a caregiver for my husband who is Stage IV colon cancer and I am always trying to keep up with all the best options out there---actually many of you helped us a while ago on this site when we had some questions. Has anyone been to one of their facilities? What did you think? We are not unhappy with his treatment, but we are always wondering if we are doing all we should be. Thanks for your help.

    Not sure about Cancer Treatment Centers of America (I'm from Canada) but have heard wonderful things about their holistic approach.
    My husband is also stage 4- with mets to liver/lungs- what treatment protocol is your husband on?

    Hi,
    My husband was diagnosed in 10/04. He started with 5FU, leucovorin and irinotecan and avastin for one month and then a colon and liver resection and ablation and then 5 and 1/2 months more of the same chemo regiment. He would go every 2 weeks and go home for 48 hours with chemo. When the cancer reoccurred in his abdomen and chest area he has started on weekly erbitux and every other week with irinotecan. How about your husband?

    I live near Seattle and have gone to the Seattle Cancer Treatment Center of America. I am not going there for consistent treatment though. I am going to a regualr hospital and oncologist for treatment.

    People do recieve chemo at CTCA and they also advise you on supplements and nutrition - which most regular MDs don't know enough about. They have MD and Naturopaths working together - which I think is great.

    There is some controversy about using certain supplements while also receiving chemotherapy. Some believe that some supplements including anti-oxidants can actually diminish the potency of chemo. But many naturopaths and MDs say this isn't true and that the supplements can actually protect healthy cells during chemo and possibly make chemo more effective.

    I have made the decision to wait until after I am done with treatment to use supplements.

    There is a book - "How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine". It was cowritten by one of the naturopaths that works at the Seattle CTCA. It is very good and can give you an idea of what kind of work they do there.

    I have heard good things about them. If anything they can give you some information. I know that I am on supplements now and will continue while on chemo. Most of the things I am on are also things that I eat if I can. The supplements just give me a boost. I told my onc it would be silly to tell me not to eat things like: mushrooms, tomatoes, sprouts so why should I stop taking supplements? A good book to read is "Beating Cancer with nutrition" by Patrick Quinlan. I will also get the book Maria said. I am all into helping beat this naturally too. I have changed my diet around to not eat any processed sugar and even check all lables for sugar and make "sweets" like rice pudding without sugar. Good luck and hugs to you and your hubby.
