I just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year. Even though we have just joined this board, it is AMAZING how often we talk about all the different people and stories we have read! We are getting prepared for wednesday (Mikes surgery), and praying for the best. When the dr. comes out and tells us that there is no sign of the cancer spreading then we will begin our new year. As the day gets closer it sure is rough. I just feel like crying over everything, (good thing our 3 kids are away for the week). They are still young for all of this, 5, 9, 11. Anyhow just wanted to say hi, and thanks for being such a wonderful group! Happy New year to all!!

    Sylvia -

Hang in there and try your best to keep a positive attitude. I know it's difficult with so much uncertainty surrounding all of this, but as my colleagues here will tell you, a positive attitude is the most important weapon Mike has in his arsenal against the dragon. It's so tough sometimes to remain positive, but it is SO VERY important.

    Have a great New Year!

    Mike and Sylvia,

You will get through this. It will not be easy and the next few weeks will be rough. Try to walk as much as you can after surgery. It helps with healing. Ask for an epidural for pain control. It really helps to get you up and about with no pain.

Most important hug those kids, that will help you get better. Just keep remembering that you have to get better for the kids.

None of us picked this terrible road we had to travel, so we have to make the best of it.

Just remember, YOU WILL GET BETTER.

Good luck and keep us posted.

PS Take all offers for help, esp. home cooked meals.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the encouraging words. We went for the pre-op on friday, and they gave the choice of morphine or epidural for the pain......chose the epidural, as the nurse had said the same as some of the people from here, that it would speed up the healing time :)

    Mike & Sylvia,

You will get through this. My kids were 2, 4, & 7 when I was diagnosed over 4 yrs ago. Today, I am cancer free, formerly a state 4. THERE IS HOPE! Keep us updated on the progress!

    Hiyas :)

I'll be thinking of you and Mike on Wednesday (I'm having my CT scan then) and hoping for the best!

I'm sending positive thoughts your way for Mike's surgery tomorrow and best wishes for the path that follows. I know that all of this is incredibly stressful (especially the uncertainty and waiting), but hang in there and you WILL get through it.
