Hi. I'm new in here. Is there anyone here with Stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma with no lymph node involvement who had recurrence? If so, when did it happen?

    Hi Mel,
I myself had stage 3 breast cancer, but my aunt had stage one ductal carcinoma and had a lumpectomy. She was then put on Tamoxifen for two years. In the very same breast, she had cancer again. They did not consider it a recurrence however because the original cancer was DCIS (ductal carcinoma) and the second time they found it, it was lobular. Her recurrance or whatever you call it prompted her to have a double mastectomy immediately. She is now comforted in the fact that she will not always have the worry about what they might find on the mammogram. I don't know if this helps you or not. I'm sure others will reply as well.

Have they told you that it's too soon for a recurrance or something like that? I am only wondering because I have been handed those words as well. After researching, they say that normally or the average of a recurrance appears at the two year mark. But that is only an average. Some recurrances happen sooner, and some much later.

I would suggest if you have any doubts in your mind whatsoever regarding a new lump, that you insist on having checked out if you already have not. This is your body. You are the commander!
    Prayers to you!

    Hi Mel,

I was stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma,no lymph node involvement-no reoccurence as of yet. This month(Sept) was my 2 year mark since surgery.Where I've been going for check ups every 3/4 months, now finally every 6 months.Still No Evidence of Disease(NED),ThanK God!How far out are You from first dx?This is the thing that haunts everyone who's ever been dx'd in the first place -Do You have a reoccurence now or just think there is a possibility- I can only imagine what You're going through right now,my heart skipped a beat when I read Your post. Let us know how You are doing-keep us posted.

I was Stage 1 with no node involvement as well, but so far I haven't had a recurrence (I'm 3 years from diagnosis). However a close friend of mine originally had DCIS 4 years ago (which is considered Stage 0 in some circles) and was diagnosed last year with a recurrence. Technically it wasn't a recurrence since it was in the other breast and this time was invasive ductal carcinoma, so really it was a brand new cancer. But she had treatment and is doing extremely well.

No reason to suspect recurrence -- just wondering. I'm more concerned about metastasis because I have bone pain all the time. I had another bone scan and all was fine. Stats say I have the "best case scenario" but you know how unpredictable cancer can be. So, my questions are just out of curiosity. Thanks for responding. What city are you in?

I'm 1 year behind you. Sept. marks one year since lumpectomy. I'm still being seen every 4 months. No reason to suspect recurrence, just concerned about bone pain and metastasis. I had another bone scan and it was fine. Thanks for answering.
