Hi again,

Thanks so much for all the replies to my earlier post about post surgery problems I have been having. I am out of the hospital finally after being readmitted post surgery because of cramping and vomiting.

I am at home but very afraid everytime that I eat something that my intestines are going to block or decide to stop contracting.

I am very on edge because of this and unfortunately one the ways that I deal with nervousness is to eat....but I can't really eat!!

Just posting to vent I suppose...I'm sure this will pass..but any encouragement that I out of the woods based on others similiar experiences would do a lot to ease my mind.

I'm am supposed to start chemo on Oct 9th and then have liver surgery at end of the year...and dealing with my new ileostomy....and my incision from rectal surgery...its overwhelming me. Not that it takes much to overwhelm me though..lol

Thanks everyone an I hope you are all doing good tonight,
Maria

    Maria,

I am not surprised that you are overwhelmed. You have a lot going on. But you will get through this. You need to eat to help with your healing. And drink, drink, drink. Drinks like gatorade are very good because they have potassium.

Start by eating small meals, that seem to help me. I had alot of soup and crackers initially. I have had many small bowel obstructions and a post op ileus times 2.
Walking will help will healing and moving things along.

    Keep us posted.

I'm with Maureen, you gotta eat. Eat very small meals for starters...the nutrition is vital to recovery. Yeah, you do got a lot going on, just take it one day at a time. You will get through this. I started my treatments in early Jan 05, it's fast approaching Oct, time flies even when your not having fun:0) Hang in there and keep us posted...

Thanks Maureen for you reply....You and Tara always seem to reply to my messages....its so nice...(I think you both are kind to reply to many peoples posts!)

I'm off to stock up on electrolyte drinks this morning. I'm going to try to not be fearful about eating. I mean the worse thing about ileus and blockages is sitting in the hospital and having an NG tube up your nose. Could be worse I guess.

And I got to get walking more...its a drag though I keep straining hamstrings...need to stretch more.

    Best wishes,
    Maria
