I'm sorry I keep making new topics I just didn't know if you continue to go back and look at the old ones. I have some questions for the juicers here. I think its wonderful the stories I hear about juicing and healing. I just have so many questions.
On a average day do you eat all organic foods? For instance this morning I want to eat a bowl of Total with blueberries. Or do you avoid cereals? Do you avoid ALL sugars? Because having to do that for a PET scan I know how hard it is to avoid ALL sugars everything has sugar in it. Do you eat things like mashed potatoes, butter, pizza, chicken???? I'm just trying to figure out if your eating solid foods or do you just juice? Do you eat bread for instance peanut butter & jelly? I really want to try this I just don't want to make myself crazy at what I can and can't eat. Its really hard. I think quitting smoking was easier.... :o) Doreen

I should have also asked. What kind of things do you drink are you careful about what you drink? Do you drink bottled water, juices, milk, orange juice. I just don't know how strict you all are with the juicing and diet. Thanks. Doreen

    Hi Doreen,

My diet changes were evolutionary. I juiced right away with only organic foods. I cut out my soda and everything that had corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, or white sugar in it. Next I cut out all white flour products. I went to the health foods store and read labels and then would go to a conventional grocery store and read the labels. I got to the point where I never bought anything to eat that had an ingredient in it that I could not pronounce. Over time, I did all my grocery shopping at health food stores. I have a list of fruits and veggies that are not as susceptible to hold pesticides then others and will buy the conventional ones. The okay conventional veggies are: asparagus, avocados, bananas, brocolli, cauliflower, corn, kiwi, mangos, onions, papaya, pineapples and sweet peas. The ones that are the worst to buy conventionally are: apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, pototoes, red raspberries, spinach, strawberries, and blueberries.

I make my own pizza but also will buy the frozen ones from the health food stores. I eat some meat but only natural, free range. All my dairy products (including butter) are organic and natural. I only eat free range eggs from chickens that have not been fed the feed that has steriods and antibiotics in it. I do not eat beef or poutry from cows injected with growth hormones and steriods. I eat some fish but am careful which ones. I follow the list in Patrick Quillan's list in his book "Beating Cancer with Nutrition". I eat bread but again only from health food stores. I eat almond butter instead of peanut butter and some jellies but only ones from the health food store. I eat cereals from the health food store only.
I eat brown rice pastas, and lots of rices, barley, and guinoa. I eat a big green salad at least once a day. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies especially this time of year. Eat as close to the original food source as you can. You should get Quillan's book, it is a good place to start. "The Makers Diet" by Jordan Rubin is another good one that explains about only eating what God makes instead of man made crap. If you are really ready to wake up and figure out why there is so much cancer now, check out "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About" by Kevin Trudeau.

I don't eat out very often but will occassionally but am very careful what I order. Most of it gives me gas and diarhea now anyway. My large family is very cool about my diet changes. At Thanksgiving, I took the free range turkey and provided some of the veggies. Both of my sisters and now one brother have gone organic and natural too. One of my brothers is a doctor and is very interested in it now. I get grilled by him all the time.

That's enough for now, feel free to ask any questions you may have and good luck to you. I do not regret my decision at all but will admit stopping chemo and changing my diet (I prefer to call it a lifestyle change) was the hardest decision I have ever had to make.

    Hi Doreen!

This is great! Ask away! The dialogue is important.

For starters, I turned "granola" 23 years ago by the diet changes my osteopath put me on due to migraine headaches. He took me off ALL WHITES and processed foods......white sugar, white flour, white rice, etc.

He took me off ALL dairy (except organic butter).

He took me off ALL alcohol. (thank god)

He took me off ALL caffeine.

So I have had to eat a "special" way for most of my adult life. I never buy or eat anything without reading the labels. Even at well-meaning friends houses when I go for a meal. When I eat out I drill my poor waitress as to what the ingredients are in the meal. Or I bring my own. Just this past weekend while I was out of town and having to eat in restaurants I sat in an Applebees and just ordered a plate of lettuce. (Not organic obviously) and then proceeded to dump my own quinoa tabouli and humus onto it. It looked so good to our waiter that he said they should serve that meal! haha

Anyway....point is....you have to think ahead and plan on taking care of yourself every meal from here on out....but it CAN be done since I have been doing it for 23 years. Just ask my hubby.

I eat fish. I am mostly vegetarian BUT if I do eat meat (never red any more) it is FREE RANGE or organic.

When I was first healing my cancer I ate vegan --NO animal products what so ever. This gave my digestion a break and allowed my body to heal without dumping harder to digest meat products into the pipes. But you have to do what you can. I do well as a vegetarian. Though like I said I do eat fish now. You may need to eat more meat like scouty does.

During my healing I avoided cereal products. I eat them on occasion now but ONLY whole grain, no sugar, low carb kinds rarely.

If I eat bread it is EZEKIAL bread which is sprouted grains.

I ONLY buy organic veggies for my juicing.

I eat blueberries just about every day.

I make homemade pizza with whole grains and soycheese (my fam has reg mozz). But when I was first healing my cancer I did not eat this.

I too eat almond butter but do eat pnutbutter at times now. But you have to be really careful about pnutbutters---NO hydrogenated oils allowed!! Go for the natural organic. There is also the problem of a toxin on the peanuts (mold).

Again, when I was first dx'ed and detoxing and healing my cancer I ONLY juiced and ate macrobiotically (The Cancer Prevention Diet by Michio Kushi).

But as scouty says take it one step at a time if you need to. For me I go gung-ho all out cold turkey right from the chute. And I learn as I go.

I second all scouty's book advice. I have them both and they are superior. Rubin's book, in my opinion, is the BEST book for explaining the importance of intestinal health and how to obtain it.

This is really a good reason why it is important to find a knowledgable Naturopathic Doctor who is schooled in NUTRITION to help you along this path.

There are also many supplements that can help you heal. But it can be confusing and intimidating to get started.

One step at a time, One day at a time.

And each day you wake up is one more day of life!!

    hope this helps.

peace, emily who ate like this today:

blueberry smoothie with protein powder and Barleans Greens
Green salad with salmon, scallions, walnuts, baby carrots, soy cheese, brocolli and flax oil, applecider vinegar and lemon dressing.
Pinto refried beans with salsa and organic tortilla chips--today was an exceptionally busy day and an odd one when I didn't juice!

    Hi Doreen,
I have not gotten into the juicing thing but I do follow many of the guidelines that Scouty and Emily mentioned. I did speak to my naturopath about it and he told me that the green foods are the ones that you should be mostly juicing - as opposed to too much fruit. Of course fruit is very beneficial, but you can just eat it and the sugars get into your blood stream much more slowly. The green foods on the other hand do not contain sugars, so juicing them is very healthy. I follow a glycemic index diet (similar to the South Beach Diet, or a diabetics diet). It is very popular in Europe. It is based on how quickly sugar from the food you eat gets into your bloodstream. Foods low on the GI are better than foods w/ a high number......For example, certain fruits are better than others. Blueberries are much better than say banannas...I am lucky because we have many wild berries in season where I live. I can go out and pick literally gallons of berries. If there are wild ones near you, I would recommend collecting them rather than buying from the stores. I also grow my own garden and that way I know what is on/in the veggies I am eating. Both of these are fun activities and get you outdoors exersizing! I feel like we should eat as close to nature as possible and feel there is a very strong connection between this and avoiding cancer and/or recurrances. I know there is sugar in nearly everything and it is a choice you have to make on a daily basis. I liked what Emily said about making a choice at every meal. My only vice is that I sometimes will drink diet sodas and products that contain Splenda. I try to keep this to a minimum and am learning to cook w/ Stevia instead.
Just do what you can, one day at a time......
I don't think anyone here only juices and does not eat anything else.... Also, it is important to realize that you cannot avoid ALL sugar. Carrots have sugar, peas, all fruits, etc. etc. It is OK to have some sugar from fruits and veggis, but avoid refined sugar. It does not even matter if it is organic cane sugar, evaporated cane juice, and so forth. It is still sugar.
Read the labels and get off all the WHITE STUFF (unfortunately that includes mashed potatoes/ unless they are sweet potatoes)
    Good luck!
    Susan.

ABSOLUTELY!! You bet it was a blow to my ego. Holy cow, how does one convince someone who lives on Coke and Twinkies that they're dumping toxic waste into their Temples and then you end up finding out you're dying of colon cancer? Well, thank god they caught it in time!! (ok, living with colon cancer--just being dramatic).

Yes, I was health conscious. But I still did not know about acid and alkaline balances. I also stuffed my emotions. I was also under an incredible amount fo stress and was grieving the loss of my sister who died of this at 33. I did not deal with anger.

80 % of colon cancers are diet related. But stressors are right up there.

My diet was not perfect, just better than the Standard American Diet. Now I understand about nourishing my body at a cellular level. I understand how important it is to extinguish toxic relationships so as to not kill me. I understand how to free my stuffed emotions (when I detoxed my emotions that surfaced where as real and intense as the parasites [worms] that came out in my poop!--meaning--it was pretty wild). Through acupuncture and body work my stuffed emotions came pouring out.....very important to my healing.

Anyway.....yes, to answer your question.....it was depressing. But it was also a fabulous learning experience and it gave me the foundation I needed to continue on this path of healing cancer with alternatives.

    peace, emily
