Hey all you awesome Semi-Colons!!

Ok, I have another article to share--this time from Energy Times ( I get it free from my vitamin shop).

It is NATURE'S CANCER FIGHTERS:

BERRIES--Black, blue, rasp, straw--"among the plant world's most powerful antioxidant; have shown the ability to inhibit cancer cell growth.

CITRUS BIOFLAVONOIDS--oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits--"grapefruit compounds may be particularly helpful in fighting lung cancer and COLON cancer.

CURCUMIN-- spice found in tumeric (can buy in capsule form too), a staple in Indian cooking.--- "Interferes with cancer cell proliferation and tumor blood-supply development."

EPA-- Omega-3 acid (oils) found in such fatty fish as salmon and sardines-- "increased intake linked to reduced rates of several types of cancer including those of the breast, COLON, lung and prostate. May help make standard chemotherapy MORE effective (consult your physician first)."

GREEN TEA-- "contains potent antioxidants; has been associated with lower cancer rates in large pop. studies (latest edition of my Alternative Medicine mag has an article about this too this month--it's "Official"" Green Tea fights cancer!!). Extracts may make it more difficult for cancer cells to invade healthy tissues."

LYCOPENE--found in tomatoes, apricots, pink grapefruit and watermelon. "REduces DNA damage in white blood cells."

MUSHROOM POLYSACCARIDES--shiitake, maitake, reishi--"Some fight tumor formation, others induce apoptosis. In Japan mushroom eaters have lower cancer death rates."

SELENIUM-- mineral found in whole grains, meats, seafood and some nuts, most notably Brazil nuts. (found to be better in organic produce b/c pesticides remove the selenium from the soil so it is hard for the produce to get enough from the soil--reason why so many of us are defficiant in selenium--the soil is too!!) "Supports production of glutathione, a natural antioxidant. May lower COLON cancer risk."

SOY--soymilk, tempeh, edame (beans) and tofu--"Populations that consume high amounts of soy foods have lower breast and prostate cancers rates." (my guess is that is because if they are eating more soy they are eating less meat which is linked to cancer--animal fats etc)

VITAMIN C--citrus fruits, cabbage and related veggies(broc, brussels sprouts, cauliflower), potatoes, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes and tom., juice-- "The body's primary water-based antioxidant; has neutralized toxic byproducts of normal fat metabolism in some studies. REcharges its partner, Vit E."

VITAMIN D-- egg yolks, butter, cod liver oil, the main source is sun-exposed skin--"Regular sun exposure is linked with LOWER overall cancer death rates, while rates for breast, COLON and prostrate cancers are all higher in northern parts of the US."

VITAMIN E--almonds, fruits, peanuts, veg oils, WHOLE grains (including brown rice)--"body's primary fat-based antioxidant; may **** prostate cancer development."

So, get out your juicers and blenders and get those veggie juices and berry smoothies going this summer and skip those steaks on the grill!!

I wish everyone optimal health this summer!! And get out in the sun on your bikes, or walking or swimming--whatever!!

peace, emily who will never give up getting everyone juicing!! :-)

Thanks, Emily. Fascinating how much I crave these foods the minute someone tells me they are part of the cancer-fighting toolbox.
