Hi, I know this has to be so hard. I guess I have so many questions. How old are your parents. Do they qualify for social security disability and medicade. If not, am I to asume one or both have cancer. Contact the American Cancer Society. They should be able to lead you in the right direction. I know in the state I am in they have a lot of references/agencies that help.

You must be very stressed out. Hang in there. I hope you get them help soon....

Check your local state welfare office. Your parents may qualify for benefits including medical and food stamps. You may find information online at your state's official website. That is a good place to start.

I do not know your state's benefits packages.
The SSI benefit from social security usually is connected to Medicaid automatic eligibility.
In my state (Minnesota) this is the case.

I would also think contacting the local welfare department and find out what your parents are eligible for and apply for as much as you can for them. Persistence is a good thing.

The web site for Social Security Administration may be place to look, too.

In any case, get the name of the persons you talk to and especially their extension to their direct phone.

    Take care

If your parents are on medication and are low income, check with the maker of the meds. Alot of them have programs for low income persons to receive free medicines/medication

I think each person who has SSI has there own eligiblilty for the Medicaid. So your mother should be an automatic when things get straightened out. The county/welfare offices should be able to help with that. Each person may be a household of one, this I do not know for sure. Or they are a household of 2.
Sometimes persons can get the SSI and Social Security disability without loosing the eligibility for the SSI and Medicaid. Cautiously check that out. Most important, you do not want to loose the Medicaid elig from the SSI. Until you know for sure, do not let the SSA close the SSI file on either parent. even if one can get the sSD or something like that. That is why the SSA is a web site to check out or research. Can call the 1 800 number to get the booklets that send out.

Then both must have their own SSI reps or the same persons at the SSA. Those are the ones that can be talked to because they already know some of the situation.
Yes, your mother may have to be the one to call the SSA as they may not talk with you, but if you have 2 phones be on there at the same time. If the individual can do their own money management the SSA will not authorize another to be a representative payee.

Sorry, I am starting to go on and on about this stuff. Hope some of the questions are answered.
Hope it goes well for you all.
Take care and wish you well in this maze of beurocracy(sp)can't spell this AM~governmental stuff. :)

if parents are veterans, a vet representative in the area would help with vet services.
    Just thought of that.
