Hi, my name is Terry and I have recently been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma at the base of my tongue. It started first on my lower lip and was surgically removed from my lip successfully. The cure for this latest SCC at the base of my tongue is surgery or radiation / chemo and I am planning the radiation / chemo beginning next week. Can you tell me what I might expect? Thanks for your comments.

Hi Terry, my name is Gil and I am 14 months passed my last chemo and radiation treatment, which was Aug 7, 2003. I also had a tumor growing at the base of my tongue, but today I am cancer free and for all intents and purposes, I am living with very few health or physical problems that are directly connected with my ordeal. I don't know where you are in your process, but I am very available to share with you any information, or advise, or whatever, in which you might be interested.
Please let me know if I may be of help.

Regards,
Gil

sure can I had the same thing about 5 years ago the treatment is effective but its no picnic be sure to get IMRT radiation it will save your vocal chords and really cut down side effects you will lose wt if you are thin think about a food tube because after a while you won't be able to tase much your taste will eventually come back but its important you keep your wt up during tratment also see about getting on a liquid program of gevity if you have the kind of chemo I did you should not get much nausea which is good and no hair loss which is also good you will get very tired sleep as much as you can your throat will get sore but your doc will give you pain pills for that try and stay positive believe me it may feel like you will never get better but you will trust me hang in there feel free to write anytime JH
