I was watching the news on my local tv station and they reported that a new drug called Letrozole taken after menopause can cut a women's risk of recurrence of breast cancer by 50%.

The lead researcher for this study was Dr. James Ingle.

No hoopla necessary. It was approved in 2001 January when I began my treatment. They've been using it now just for metastatic cancer after tamoxifen fails - and Femara failed me too.

They think after five years on Tamoxifen it might be good to then go on Femara for some additional years.

It's not NEW - just a new way to use it. similar to the trials for herceptin which is now in trials as adjuvant treatment - before only metastatic use.

    I am feeling cynical today!

    Don't feel bad lajohn.......
jean I'll add to your cynasism....this is exactly how the powers to be misrepresent the so called progress they are making. They toss us something, present it as new and hope to apease the masses for awhile.
The other cat and mouse game they play is with the statistics. Reports indicate fewer deaths due to cancer, what they don't tell you is the death frequently is a result of cancer. In particular, results of chemotherapy side effects, such as congestive heart failure, renal failure, etc.
Praise God they have made some progresses, but relatively minor advances in the past 20 years.
Money, money, money that's where the hoopla lies.

I TRIED THEM ALL AND WAS DOING GREAT W/ NO METS FOR 7 YRS.But the tamox and arim. didnt stop my period which I guess its suppose to but after no meds for 6mnths prepping for surg and rads my immune was dwnw/no extra protection and it spread sev places to bone and new spot on lung this lupron depot w famara has thrown me into menapause which so far am seeing very slow difference wandering if should do something more aggressive or build up immunity first and stop smoking which am tring to do after 30 yrs which menopause is exaggerating more stress than ever imagined.Starting a treatment for bone strenth Zomeda therapy. BUT REALLY AFRAID OF BAD IMMUNITY or the aggressive poisons not being strong enuogh as was. They mentioned xeoleda pill too.Does anybody know results frm that?It just seems like there should be some more immune buiding drugs because theres no replacement for the original sytm.Just like your transmission goes out and warrantied for another yr, but still not as IN-TUNE AS ORIG. thats why it always starts acting up again soon after the warranty has run out.ITS SO SPECIFIC & SYNCRANIZED its so finely tuned to each individual and how they have taken care of it. Sorry 4 rambling trying to keep hands busy.Any drugs 4 menopause mania too?
