one breast gone

I am having trouble finding a breast prostethis to fit in my bra that matches my real breast. I am almost 50 and overweight my breast is saggy...all the prostethis or foam inserts make my fake breast look perky and up three inches higher then the other. Have any of you made one before? I know new boobs used water balloons but I don't think that would work well (worried about popping).

Suggestions or web sites? I searched on line and got real weird stuff back......

    I typed in "breast prosthesis for after mastectomy" to google.com and found a lot of good sites - not weird stuff. Try it. Hope this helps.

    I recommend to everyone that they get a prosthesis bra and form where they can get a fitting at the same time. The ladies that do the prosthesis fittings have seen everything and know of all the products on the market and how they fit and wear. They are also great at knowing how to get the maximum reimbursements from your medical insurance. I can recommend: http://www.bralady.com/index.htm. They offer mail-order service, but you can probably find somewhere closer to home if you're not in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    Kimm, I have heard of resourceful people making their own breast forms from materials that shift positionally. One used bbs, ball bearings or buckshot; another used birdseed. The bbs etc. will set alarms off at the airport. I am not certain what material was used to contain the birdseed or bbs, but I think it may have sections of nylon stocking. I purchased quite expensive silicone breast forms that were supposed to move to the side the same way a breast does when you lay down, but I did not find that claim to be accurate. I also purchased adhesive pads to hold them securely in a lifelike way, which was also a gross mistatement. If you look in the Yellow Pages, you may be able to find a listing for local shops that sell bras and intimate apparel with a certified mastectomy bra fitter on staff. Call ahead to make an appointment. It won't hurt to see what they have to offer. Hugs, Denise

    If you have a medical store like pulse air or something like that go to the medical store they fit people for prostesis do not have one made. The first time I had cancer 14yrs ago this lady from kansas called and asked if my insurance co . would pay for another prostesis and she buged them and took me and my insurance company for our money and come to find out she took alot of other people for their money also .She also took insurance companies ,and credit card comapanies for their money also .She was sent to jail and we all got our money back but it took along time I do not want to see you get took so go to a medical place that knows what they are doing and where they have some one to fit you .

    I just had a mastectomy three weeks ago and got my prosthesis today. I am disappointed with the color so I asked about custom prostheses. I was referred to radiantimpressions.com .They are quite expensive - $2700.00, but I hear they are very good. The site gives you distributors in your area. Good Luck! I'd love to hear if anyone has a prosthesis by them and if it's worth the money.
