I stopped taking SSRI's because of dissieness but I need a little help with mild depression. I have been taking St. John's Wort and it works fine for me. However now I have read that it can decrease the effectiveness of Tamoxifen. I'm afraid if I tell my Oncologist he'll tell me to stop taking it. Has anyone has experience with Tamoxifen and St. John's Wort? What are the Oncologist's saying?

SSRI's are the newer anti-depressants like zoloft, paxil, prozac, celebrex, etc.

jean, celebrex isn't an anti-depressive. I take it for pain. Unless you know something I don't know or I'm mixed up about. But I'm almost sure that celebrex is for pain. I can't tolerate zoloft either and want to try St. John's Wort too. My onc said I could but it's mild not strong as zoloft. I'll let you know how it goes. Marie

WHOOPS! Marie, thank you! You are soooo right about celebrex. The name is a close one - maybe celexa? -it's only been around a few years.

Celebrex and Vioxx for pain :-)

I did not like Zoloft - made me feel rather groggy and eventually gave me diarrhea which I read if you can get thru that, it stops. Forget it, I quit it. Also did not like Paxil for the same reason but have liked Prozac a lot.

Do you like Celebrex for pain. I've read several places they think it may have anti-cancer qualities. If so would be a good pain pill for all of us.

Hi Jean! Celebrex, Vioox and Bextra are great for arthritic pain! They are also less troublesome to the stomach.I swear by all of them! HUGS!! Cathy

Hi Jean, yes I like Celebrex but like vioxx better. I used to take the first but now since my arthritis in my neck, I take vioxx and it's great. Good to the stomach too. Boy, by the looks of it, we're all in some kind of pain!!! God help us all. I also take celebrex when I have a headache etc. I have chronic gastritis so I have to be careful. Hugs and love to all, Marie

Celexa is the other SSRI. It's great - very few side effects and I hear there's a new version that's even milder when it comes to that. My doctor once described Celexa as "smooth" and he was right!
