Patient Assistance Programs for MEDICINES

Hi everyone!
I hope the following info will help some of you. Thankfully, AstraZeneca helped me!
When I was taking Tamoxifen, I was approved by AstraZeneca, the mfr. of Nolvadex (Tamoxifen), to receive Tamoxifen at no charge for 1 year through their patient assistance program. I found out about this program thru my dear friend, Alice, who is also a BC surivivor.
About 1 year later, I was delighted to find assistance for her. She's been battling metastasis to her liver for the last 3 years, so her oncologist switched her from Tamoxifen to Femara. She was approved for a 'Together Rx' card which covers Femara. This allows her to pay only $12-$15 (I forget the exact amt.) per month!
Some Patient Assistance Programs (PAP) are only available if you are on Medicare and have no other prescription coverage. Others are solely based on your income. Income level requirements vary according to mfr. or savings program from below $18,000/individual ($24,000/couple) to below $30,00/individual ($40,000/couple).
The best thing to do is to find out from your pharmacist the mfrs. of the meds you are taking and go on-line to those mfrs. websites or give them a call to see if they have a PAP.

I don't know about you, but these cancer expenses and not being able to work have wiped me out! I think we need all the help we can get.

    Hi Geral...thanks for the info. Right now, I have Rx insurance, but when my hubby retires, I won't so this is nice to know. Also, I just started corresponding with a lady who's mother-in-law is my mom's best friend. She just had her surgery today, and will undoubtedly be on tamoxifen or something eventually, and has no insurance. So, I sent your post on to her.     ***CORRECTION***
    Alice does have a Together card, but she purchases her Femara using a Novartis (mfr. of Femara) card. She said a discount is offered on Femara using the Together' card, but it's not even close to the discount she receives from the mfr. Her price using the Novartis card is $12.
