Surgery .... gross-o-rama!!! lol

Hi sisters! So, I went to the chest surgeon yesterday ... I will be having that dreaded bone resection on July 10. He gave me some insight into the procedure ... 5-6 inch incision, remove a 4-5 inch piece of the bone, sew me up. They don't replace the removed portion with anything ... seems odd to me but he's the doc ... lol. Overnight stay in the hospital ... then home for a 6 week recovery!!! I asked if it was like a broken bone ... he said I would wish I had only broken it ... lol. He said the pain is pretty intense for the first week or two but then gets better. I told him we'll see about that ... I had a hysterectomy last fall .. they failed to put my i/v in correctly after the surgery ... so I got no pain medication for about 10 hours after surgery .... so I told him I can't imagine anything hurting worse than that ... lol. Anyway, he said it's a 50/50 chance either it's a met or it's a fracture that didn't heal properly. The only way to know is to get it out. Good news here though ... I've been looking, unsuccessfully to find someone who has done this, now I will be the one to guide someone else through it down the road. Oh well, just keeping you guys informed and keeping on keeping on. Have a great day! A line taken from one of my favorite songs ever ... by Travis Tritt ... "IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE"!!!! You ladies have a good one ... love, angie

Hi Angie,

Good Luck with the upcoming surgery. After my hysterectomy, I felt the pain was not as bad as some of the pain with my periods especially in the months before surgery.

Hope you have an easy time - and so thoughtful of you to tell us what's going on - as you said it could help someone else too.
Love, Jean

Hey Jean!!!
Thanks for the well wishes!!! Like you, I didn't think the hyst. was so bad ... once they got the IV in right ... lol. I was back coaching my son's flag football team 3 days after the surgery....so I'm sure this bone thing won't keep me down too long. Again, thanks for thinking of me.

Love, angie

Angie - I am new to this site and the terms that go along with cancer. I am not sure what bone resection is (I can only guess from what I read). Could you please inform me. Thanks and all of my prayers to you. Mary20

Hey Mary!!! A bone resection on me is where the surgeon goes in and removes a piece of bone in my rib that is suspicious for cancer. In my case, it is a 4 inch place ... and he's not putting the bone back together ... what is the deal with that??? lol Anyway, he said, according to my scans, it is 50/50 that it will be a metastisis from the breast cancer or an old fracture that didn't heal properly. I'm putting my money on the latter!!! I hope this answered your question, but if not, please write to me again and I will try to be more informative. : )

Now for my question ... you are new to this site? What is your situation? I'm just curious. WELCOME!!!! We are all here anytime you want to talk!!!!!

Now Angie, just think about it, what is the doc going to put back in? An old unsed coat hangar? Ha Ha, maybe Adam wants his rib back! Dear, dear, Angie, I hope you have a real easy time of it. On another site a sister who is a nurse wrote, "Just yell at the top of your lungs until you get ENOUGH pain meds!" Remember, just yell. We are all thinkinf of you and singing, "Annnngiiiee, how we love you, how we love you, our dear old Angie", sung to the tune of "Mammy". Oh well, a little humor is what we all need. Stay strong dear sister, and we are are praying for a swift recovery and good news. Hugs, Shirlann

Dear Angie, did you hear the one about the old country boy who got stopped by the police and the officer leaned in and said, "Sir, do you have any ID?", the good old boy said, "About what?" I think of you so often and your courage in what you have to do, sometimes it just doesn't seem fair, but we will all be with you in the operating room, you just can't see us, but we are there in spirit, we love you, Shirlann

You know, Shirlann, if more people would realize, and accept, that life isn't fair .. well, things could be alot better in this world. If you read my personal web page you saw that I NEVER ask 'why me' about the bad things because then I would have to ask 'why me' about the good things ... good things like having a new friend named Shirlann in my life. You are so awesome and hearing from you means so much to me. I know you'll be there with me in that cold operating room ... so be sure and wear a jacket!!! lol .... I love you ... and am always wishing the very best for you!! love, angie p.s. - the good ol boy in the story was probably my boyfriend ... ahahhahahaha

Thanks Debbie! I really don't expect it to be as bad as he made it sound ... ** crosses fingers **. It will take a lot more than removing a bone piece to keep me down. I've got an NFL player in training (he's 8) that I have to get busy working on as soon as baseball season ends...lol. Have a great day! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers! love, angie
