I am 37, and I wondered if tamoxifen can stop your periods? I have my tubes tied and fried so I am fairly sure I am not pregnant. I just took 6 rounds of ac and that didnt stop my periods, but after being on tamoxifen for 2 months I am now over a week late! Thanks for your help!

Carlye,

Tamoxifen was originally planned as a fertility pill so women who are pre-menopausal are usually cautioned to use birth control - not the pill of course.

But your tubes are tied so??????
That's all I know and got it from reliable sources as i read about tamoxifen for myself. I am convinced I felt a lot better before I took it.

Good Luck to you.

Hi Carlye! I've been on Tamoxifin for 1 1/2 years and had my period 1 time since starting. Do to the fact that tamoxifen stops production of estrogen, it's common to have your periods stop. Depending on your age, it's possible that they will return when you stop Tamoxifen. Thank god, I'm 50 now so don't expect it to return. That's been a plus for me! Good luck! Keep in touch! HUGS!! Hi Carlye! My oncologist told me not to be surprised if my periods stopped, although I haven't been that lucky yet after 4 months!! I just had my tubes fried last month, just in case, since we obviously can't take birth control any more. I'm 43, and hoping I go through menopause while on tamoxifen so I don't have to go through that again! How are the hot flashes for you? Night sweats? I've got them both with a vengeance. But, I guess I should be thankful I have them, cuz that means I'm alive to feel them! Best wishes to you in your survivorship!! Cyndi

Hi, I was just wondering what her-2+++ was? I understand everything else but not that. All I know about my cancer is that I am in stage II and had 2 positive nodes. Thanks.

her-2 +++ is a protein on your cells that makes the cancer grow very aggressively. They have just started in the last few years. I would look on your path report it should be on there. Its not a good thing but if you have heard of herceptin, it is the drug they use to treat this. Amything I can help you with, I would love to!!

Hi...you know, if you have any trouble deciphering anything on your pathology, take it to your oncologist, and have them explain why it is good or bad to have whatever you have in each category. You really have to be your own advocate, and they are the experts...don't leave til you are satisfied with the explanation. I got lucky, and have a wonderful onc Dr. who writes everything down for me, and even shows me things in textbooks or journals if I need more of an understanding. It's a lot of info to digest. Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book spells it all out pretty well, too. It's a wonderful book for the whole process...$30.00 at any book store. Some libraries carry it, too, but sometimes not the latest edition, but the pathology things haven't changed. If you have a local cancer center, see if they have a library. Good luck...knowledge is power! Cyndi

Hi Carlye...I know I e-mailed you, but for the benefit of the group, I'll repeat myself. I was Stage 1, node negative, er/pr + and Her-2 -. My S-Phase was really low, too, so non-aggressive. Thank God your nodes were negative!!! That's such a big part of metastesis, so that's wonderful! See ya... Cyndi
