Hi- I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It sounds like she really needs you right now.
The first thing I would do is to learn about what type of cancer she has- You can do this by calling 1-800-4-Cancer or www.cancer.gov Give them the specific name of the cancer and they will send you wonderful info. They even will send you two free paperback books by Richard Bloch that are very good. This will show your friend how much you care. Something that also helped me was getting a subscription to a magazine called Coping with Cancer (wonderful survivor stories). In fact I send this to people I know who have gotten Cancer- It is a great magazine - Remember your friend is living with cancer not dying of cancer. To get a sub. call 615-791-3859 it is $19 a yr. and comes every other month. Just remember to be positive- Don't wait for her to ask you to do something- just do it. Support groups are also wonderful- find out where yours are in your area- call your local Cancer Society- volunteer to go with your friend to a group. One last thing- have all your friends rally around your best friend. Have them send funny cards and do funny things.
Hope this may be helpful- You take care-
Your already a great friend by looking on this website. Take Care- Jill
MY best advise as a cancer survivor... just be there for her. Dont try to offer advise. Just let her know you are willing to listen and do what ever she ask of you. Most of the time a Cancer Survivor just needs to feel free to express his or her feelings without being judged and without worrying about hurting someones feelings. So just listen and a little laughter wont hurt either. Good Luck.
i am sorry to hear that.,..just be there for her, visiting and sharing her stituation..she doesn't know what to do about her condition either...and she will let you know how you can help...she has a long road ahead and she needs the support of her friends and family.
I will say to you, take a deep breath and give yourself some time to think. I don't know what kind of cancer or what stage she is in but remember to love her. I wrote a poem title, Cancer Is So Limited. If you would like for me to share it with you let me know and I will. God be with you and your friend. I am a breast cancer survivor for more than tweleve years and going strong.
