Hi,
I'm from Australia and ride too. That's my name softD after my softail deluxe! I too just got my new bike when I got dx with ovca. Finished chemo and recovered from surgery now so hoping to ride again soon.
Wishing all you fellow bikers all the best with your treatments and hopefully we can all get out there on the road again soon,

Sorry about your president. Our prayers are with him to beat it again. Bil has stage 4 NH Lymphoma. He finally got the harley he has wanted since we have been together (23 years) on Sept 15, 2008. He got diagnoised Sept 17, 2008. He has gotten to ride it once so far hopefully the spring will bring us more rides. We live in IN. Hs chemo is working so far we go again for chemo Feb 2. Prayers & hugs to all ya.

Just thought I'd drop you a line since my wife and I enjoy biking and I'm a cancer survivor from Mass. Haven't posted here much at all and have only checked in from time to time. I was diagnosed with what they called a lymphoproliferative disorder back in August of 2000. No sypmtoms or anything. All I needed to do was monitor.

Fast forward to the fall of 2006 when the indolent nature of what I had decided to become more aggressive (diffuse large B cell lymphoma). I went through 6 rounds of RCHOP chemo at our local clinic then an autoglutous(sp?) stem cell transplant at Dartmouth/Hitchcock in New Hampshire in August of 2007. In the end I guess it all worked since it got rid of the aggressive side but there's no cure for the indolent small lymphocytic lymphoma that I still have. By the beginning of December I was back to work and slowly but surely getting my act back together. It's been quite the adventure.

I did want to mention that in the month or so between when my R-CHOP ended and when I was admitted to Dartmouth I told my oncologist I needed a break. My wife and I used that break to take a bike trip up to and around Nova Scotia. We brought everything with us, took the ferry from Portland, ME to Yarmouth and spent the next 10 days or so riding the coast of Nova Scotia. Even camped out a few times. It was the trip of a lifetime. Last summer we went for 2 weeks down Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway and out to the middle of Kentucky and back.

I still have my 3 month check ups and deal with all the ups and downs that come with being a survivor but being able to be out on the bike sure helps.

Thumper, Warbird asked me to give everyone an update so here ya go.

He and I went to Boise, Idaho today so he could receive his treatment . He was in very good spirits and was actually feeling pretty good ...the treatment went well after we met my daughter for a late lunch and hit the road back for Lagrande (it is about a 5 1/2 hour round trip)

On behalf of Warbird and family I want to thank everyone for keeping him in your prayers and thoughts.

Hey all,

Thumper you are so right when you say it is hard to know what will work. Truth is, everyone is different and there are no blueprints telling us how to attack the beast. In my case it was easy to go alternative as the white coats told me I would be dead in 11 months and they had run out of tricks as I had already done chemo, radiation, surgery.

I used many different alternatives in my quest. I attended a seminar in San Diego re: alternaitves and traveled to a Mexican clinic to see what they have to offer. Going to Mexico opens up a whole different set of treatment modalities. I was never treated there but kept it as a last resort. Some of the things I used were cesium, mistletoe, LDN, chinese herbal formula made for me by my ND, accupuncture, juicing, hyperthermia, dietary and exercise changes, laetrile, paw paw, VIBE machine and other energy work, many supplements including vit D, and Dr Rath's formula.

It's impossible to say what may help. Here are a couple of sites where you can begin to investigate some alternatives and get input from others.

My Husband is a rider we live in az. he fighting colon cancer since nov 07 had reacurrance to the stomach liver and kidney in june of 08 he is stage 4 terminal he is in the hopital now had a blockage in the colon opened him up to remove unalbe to do so because of the big tumors on the colon had to have a ilesotomy bag will start chemo again but when he is feeling good we ride and he loves it. He is losing the battle we think .I wish it wasn;t that way but it is
I am his wife we have been married for 35 yrs he 53 i am 51 and i am praying for a miracle to help him..

I am in Oregon and definately love bikes (including my little sporty).

Was told 2 years ago there was nothing they could do and I would be dead in 11 months. I found some alternative things that I have thought to be helpful. They tell me now, I am NED (no evidence of disease). I would share the things I have learned if you are interested.

You should check out the page of a guy on this site named nodawgs. He is AVID harley rider and has a host of stories about his biking episodes along with his fight against cancer. I don't know that there are many who could go through what he has and still be hanging in there.

You can find his page by entering his name in Member Search prompt and then selecting the name when it shows up.

Hi friends.

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who's a biker or loves motorcycles? Our Oregon chapter president, "Warbird" found out over Christmas that his cancer has returned. We'd love to hear words of encouragement and support for our dear friend and fellow biker, and prayers are appreciated too!
