Stage IV

I was diagnosed in April of 2011; this had been brewing in me since 1999, but was passed off as a bleeding ulcer. By the time my colon was completely blocked in April it spread to nodes, pelvic bone, liver, lungs. Immediate surgery removed the colon tumor, scrapped off all the bone, and removed all nodes. I had 2 sessions of chemo and all 5 tumors in my liver have disappeared from that PET scan as well the 2 spots on my lungs. My CEA was 96 before surgery, 70's before chemo, 50's after the first session, 16 after a month break and having a wisdom tooth pulled, and 4 after the second chemo session. I give credit to God. It may reoccur or maybe not; but to me it's just going to be a bump in the road I will cross without issue. Sincerely, Steve Hoog Tulsa OK 918-260-0151

Colorectal Board

You will find many posting frm Stage IV survivors in the colorectal boards. It's okay for you to post there as the sister. You will find lots of hope there and also lots of information to assist her in her battle. My husband was diagnosed in May with same as your sister. Although we are both scared sh--less, we are continuing to live almost normal lives. He is golfing today for third day in a row. Once you get over the shock, things will return to a new normal where living is still lots of fun. I have four sisters so know how irreplaceable they are. You and yours will have many years ahead. She will need you to be normal and not focus on her illness. Good luck. Lisa

Best wishes

Best of luck and good wishes. My husband lived for 6 years with stage 4 colon cancer originally with mets to the lymph nodes and liver. I know there are many new things out there. Each new thing he tried seemed to add more time. That's really what we are all doing, buying time. That's why we try to live healthy lives and try to avoid very dangerous behaviors. I wish you much more time.

Please consider sharing your dx with at least some members of your family. Our family became much closer as we supported my husband through this time. We feel very blessed with those 6 years. We were a close family before, but we came to know each other even better. We treasured the time we had together. I can understand not wanted to worry family members, but you may also be depriving them of a chance to support you in a very meaningful way. Fay

I am and have had for more then a year now the excact same cancer.
I have hid it from my family and continue to do so. I let them think it just me
and my mind to make them feel safe and not worry. I am undergoing a radical
treatment at Johns Hopkins Once a Month that totally wipes me out. I am about to
enter stage 4 as my tests have all shown rapid spreading to my lungs and lypnodes.
I will follow up with you in the next few days.
Im happy for Leisa Dargis

Im happy for Leisa Dargis and her outcome so far by designing her diet as to maintain high alkalinity and monitoring her PH levels closely. But I would never suggest to anyone, especailly with lung cancer, that diet, vitamins, or holistic approaches is a sound and worthwhile approach. What if your friend decided to postpone conventional treatment for her lung cancer and try to beat cancer with the diet Leisa Dargis promotes and her cancer grows? The time lost very likely could make her treatments increasingly challenging and more difficult to obtain a successful outcome.

Lung cancer is known to be one of the aggressive types of cancer incl;

NSCLC accounts for about 80% of lung cancers.
•Squamous cell carcinoma:
•Adenocarcinoma. This cancer is found in the glands of the lungs that produce mucus. This is the most common type of lung cancer in women and also among people who have not smoked.
•Bronchioalveolar carcinoma. This is a rare subset of adenocarcinoma.
•Large-cell undifferentiated carcinoma. This cancer forms near the surface and grows rapidly.

SCLC accounts for about 20% of all lung cancers. Although the cells are small, they multiply quickly and form large tumors that can spread throughout the body.

Hi Wenchie,

Hi Wenchie,
My husband's case sounds similar to you. Diagnosed over two years ago, one nodule in lung but the doctor didn't think it was anything. Did 9 cycles of xeloda and oxaliplatin. A year later more nodules in lung, biopsied, indeed was colon cancer. Liver is still clear. Just finished fourth cycle of folfiri and avastin, one nodule shrank 40%, the others are stable. All are now less than 1 cm. Good news!
Bill

Help is out there...

There was a story all over our local news recently regarding a Leisa Dargis. She was diagnosed with stage four lung cancers which had metastasized from her lung to her spine and to her brain and was given only 18 months to live. Apparently she chose to take her chances, opting out on the “Western Medicine” chemotherapy / radiation. Instead, she made some serious lifestyle changes consisting mainly of diet as to maintain high alkalinity (an environment in which cancer cannot possibly dwell) and monitored her PH levels closely.

Reportedly, less than seven months post initial diagnosis she has been confirmed completely cancer free. NBC plugged her web site at the end of their report, which is http://www.diseasefreedom.com which I immediately relayed to my friend Linda whom was recently diagnosed with early stage lung cancer (hence my focus on the topic). Inspired by her success, Linda contacted Leisa Dargis directly (initially through her Website and then by telephone) which, ultimately led to a personal meeting.

Linda called as she returned from her meeting; “You’ll never guess who I just met with” were the first words she spoke. Her delivery was laced an optimism I’d not head since her diagnosis and an energy sufficient to leave me speechless not to mentioned disadvantaged in the guessing department. “Lisa Dargis! The lady on the news! I’m going to beat this thing!” It sounds trite but I really did almost drop the phone. Not in response to her words but rather the palpable re-emergence of a spirit which had been fading through hopelessness and unspoken fear.

The results are not yet in but over the past months Linda has stuck to her plan without missing a beat and is literally back to her energetic and upbeat self again. For this I am forever so grateful.

colon cancer metastisis to the lung

My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 49. She underwent 2 rounds of chemo treatment that made her very sick and didn't seem to be affecting the cancer cells at all. Instead of staying ill and feeling like a pile of garbage every day, she decided to do radiation treatment. This really helped her to maintan a positive attitude and regain hope. After the treatment was complete, she was doing well. 6 months later, the doctors noticed that a dark spot on the CT scan had grown. This is where things started to get complicated. They did further scans and x-rays and found that the dark spot was located around the heart where the lungs are connected. After a biopsy, the doctors found that the colon cancer had spread to this area. The only solution thus far it to place a stint in the lung where this mas is blocking the travel of air so she can breath better. Chemo treatment is out of the question for her because she gets so ill. Due to the location of the cancer, they are not able to safely remove any of the cancer cells and they can only allow minimal radiation treatment. I am preparing for the worst because it seems minimal for any hope or rational for her to recover from this. does anyone know of any HOPE?
