hi, my husband also diagnosed plasmacytoma,(tumor located on 12th rib) which they found to have spread. He was given 6 radiations, on thalidamide and decadron40mg times four days, off four days and Zometa4mgs each 3-4 weeks. His iga was2820 starting and now is down to230. His Benche Jones Protein was neg. on his 24hour urine done on July15,04. He is 68 years old with history of heart disease. He had bypass surgery Oct.1998 three grafts done. the surgeon told us he had about 40% of functioning. He is on several heart and blood pressure meds. We know he is not in complete remission, but he looks good and feels great. But the dr. is trying to get him to agree to a bone marrow- stem cell transplant. He has repeated said he wanted quality life. He dos not feel like he could recover from such surgeries. He also goes to uams at Little Rock,Ar. Being the care giver and wife, I cannot help but wonder are we doing the right thing. I need to mention that he had to be resusitated four times after surgery. Also during the 10months of Chemo, he was weak, depressed has residule neuroopathy. He just was not the man I married 48years ago. One month after the thalidamide etc was stopped, my husband came back to us. He is now happy laughing and happy to get up every day. thanks for letting me jus t ramble, I have felt alone for over a year as no one really wants to talk about cancer and survival. My children act as if it never happened and he is WELL! We pray that it is. God Bless

My husband has Plasmacytoma Multiple Myeloma stage four, you need to get an Bench/Jones 24 hour Urine Collection and have you Drs. sent it to a large Clinic, preferable a Hospital Lab that deals with DX of Cancer, I don't know where you live but your Kidney Drs. specialist should know the procedure. We did not find out until last year, with a lesion in the right arm that was a spontanoues fracture, so it is an easy DX to miss, especially when the pain is not localize in one special area, my husband was give 6 months and we are on the 15 month since the DX, he did not qualify for the bone marrow transplant due to blood clots and COPD of the lungs. Plasmacytoma affect the kidneys, liver and bone marrow, it seem to attack the bone marrow first with my husband but maybe the underlining problem was the kidney, check you function of your kidney with a simple A & B blood test and keep insisting on repeat tests, your kidney function can change overnight with this Plasmactoma. My husband is on blood thinners for the rest of his life and if we would have known about the test we may have been able to to the stem cell replacement before he went into the full Multiple Myeloma. Please be careful not to break any bones. Good luck with your TX plan my husband has been in very little pain and is still functioning, although very tired from the year of Chemo, Aggressive Chemo and Radiation TX, he is now on Interferon to try and maintain his kidney function at 1.3 which is normal and we have been at 13, which is pretty close to kidney failure.

I have been diagnosed with Solitary Plasmacytoma early stage. I can't find much about it except for when it turns to Multiple Myeloma. My Husband and I dont know what to do or where to turn to because the DRs are still trying to figure it out. There is not much research about it that we can find. Can anyone help direct us in the right direction.
