I am officially a lab rat

My 10:45 appointment got underway right on schedule but by the time they did EKG, blood draw (
LOTS of blood), vitals, etc it was 2:00. It took a long time (over an hour) to get the vaccine compounded. I posted on Face Book that it had to be done by elves specially trained in alchemy. LOL
My next injection is Feb 11, then the 18th and after that I get a break and we are going back to the Wed schedule .

I wore my shirt from last year's NOCC 5K. Dr S was very impressed, especially when I told him I had done the race while I was in treatment.

Hope you staying over until your next visit and can go to plays etc. Think DFW is a mess right now with Super Bpwl fever. You are an inspiration.

Going home tomorrow, unless we get snow bound here in NY.

We walked down to St Patrick's cathedral, lit a candle and said a prayer. I wanted to stay for mass but my husband wanted to get back to the hotel before it got dark and the temp dropped even more.

I also wanted to ride the subway but Bob is afraid we will end up in Harlem or something and get mugged, a la The Out of Towners.

    Back home!
It really is "always something". I drug myself out of bed at 3 AM to check us in for a 7 o'clock flight, only to find out that the employee website we have to use was down for maintenance. My husband called the non-rev not-so-helpful line and was told it was not expected to be back up until after 8 AM, so off we went to the airport. (If you fly as an employee/retiree of the airline, your place on the priority list depends, among other things, on the order of check in, with the goal being to check in as close to the 4 hour max as possible.)

Since everyone else was having the same issue, we still made numbers 1 and 2 on the list, though, and were even able to catch the 6:10 flight - full of way too perky people on their way to DFW to see the Super Bowl.

Joni....we are definitely going to ride the subway next time. We will leave Bob at the hotel, if he is too timid to go with us. Maybe we can ride it down to Times Square.

Maria (and all)....I have a daughter, too, and 4 granddaughters. I am delighted and honored to have the chance to participate in this study. It would give me such satisfaction to know that I was part of saving the lives of generations of women to come. Even though it's a Phase I trial and odds are will not pan out, and even though there have been many other vaccine trials that went nowhere, there is always a chance that this will be the one that works. Every single treatment available today began as a Phase I trial. And I have absolutely no doubt that any and all of you would do the same.

Cool! My appointment on the 11th is for noon and on the 18th it is 9 AM. We will be in Dr S's office at the same time on the 11th.

Have you already sent your records and CT scan to them? That first appointment they will draw blood, take your vitals, and go over the protocol with you. There are tons of forms you have to fill out and sign. I warn you, they told me he is booked solid for the 11th, so you could have a long wait.

I will send you my contact info. We are staying in the Marriott that is in the same building as MSKCC. We will be arrivingon Thursday, but you just come in for the day, right? No overnight stays?

    Feb 11th
I had all the blood work done at my visit to my oncologist last week at Sloan in NJ so hopefully that will cut some time down - we just go in for the day and I am hoping that on Friday we will be able to get to see my Mom in Brooklyn on the way back to NJ when we are done- on the other visits (starting on the 18th) when I begin the shots we will kill time in NYC after the appointments in order to miss rush hour back to NJ - sometimes it could take longer driving the 50 miles back than flying back to Fla. (!) - can't wait to see you on Frdiay Hon - will be in touch via cell -
